When I was hunting this last weekend I called softly a few time and then just sat tight. after 20 min. I kept hearing this sound and I was not sure what is was, so I just sat in my spot and did nothing.

I have been wondering what that sound was, so I started reading more about turkey behavoir and found "spit and drum sounds of a strutting gobbler" and a sound file. well now I know what that sound was and I just wished I had called to him, and waited longer. I had gave up and moved shortly after hearing him spit and drum several times. he sounded so close and just above me on a ridge that a dirt trail comes down from to my right.

"instinctive archery" is more like playing the violin. Without practice you may remember the mechanics, but you will not be a virtuoso.

When they sneak up 10 feet behind you and do it, it'll make you jump out of your skin.     :scared:    :D

OOoohh Nooo!  And just to make you feel even worse, when you can hear that they are REAL close!  He had to be right on top of you!  I hope you hear that sound again the next trip to the woods - if you do you'll sure remember it!
