I ask this to those that have tried the different string materials. Dacron is very quiet and FF is a little to noisey for me. Is there anything that gives you the best of both? Thanks

LBR

Depends on the bow, how the string is made, number of strands, how the nock fits, silencer type and placement, etc. etc. etc.

My personal favorite is Dynaflight '97.  I get lots of comments about how quiet it is.  I've had people tell me that their recurve (with Dynaflight) was as quiet or quieter than their longbow.  I've also heard different people that prefer 450+, 8125, etc.  I've seen some posts about TS+, but I've never tried it.  I'm stuck on the customer service BCY offers, so that's the people I deal with.

Some bows seem to "like" one material over another, but generally speaking I think the other variables (tuning, how the string is made, silencer placement, nock fit, etc.) makes a lot more difference than the string material--at least it has in my experience.

That being said, I never did care for regular FF, but I never tinkered with it either.

I have only used  Dacron and FF. FF for me has always taken a lot of work to keep quiet on all of my bows. I would like to go another direction and just looking for some real feed back. Thanks

LBR

Sorry I couldn't be more specific--it's like asking which bow is best--there's no one perfect answer.  Some bows seem to do well with whatever you put on them, some are picky, but most of the ones I've tinkered with had more to do with tuning than the string material.

Angel Majesty ABS and TS+ are two materials with good reputations for being quiet.  I'm using the ABS with wool puffs on my personal bow.

Onehair

I am not familiar with the ABS. Who makes it?

WildmanSC

I have used TS-1+ and it is very quiet.  I haven't tried the Angel Majesty ABS, yet, although I've read some good things about it.

Onehair,
I've rediscovered dacron just very recently and can't beleive the difference in the feel and quietness of my VK.I feel I've lost some in performance but the more I shoot the dacron string the more I perfer it.I to have been wondering about the less stran or different string materials available.I've been shooting 97 w/ 16 strans and have never been happy w/ the quietness of my bow.
My question is.Is there any high performance strings that give you the quietness of dacron or can you lessen the amount of strans on dacron to gain performance?

Onehair

That's what I am looking for Overbo. I have gone to 14 strands of Dacron out of my 55# bows and have had good success. Never broke one. The FF has a better feel in the bow hand but I can't take the twang.

Passthru

Majesty ABS is made by Angel.  It's very popular with target shooters.  It has a thermal resin coating and doesn't require wax.

JC

Passthru builds a superb string, very happy with the TS+ product I've gotten from him.

Chad, your thoughts on the comparison between TS+ and ABS?

JC,

I haven't shot the TS Plus yet, so I can't offer any thoughts on a comparison.

Yesterday I made a 14 strand hybrid. 6 FF and 8 Dacron.I can't believe how well this is working. After 50 shots, zero creep. Very still in the hand, quick as ff and quiet as a mouse poot. So far so good. I'll continue to shoot and keep you posted.

Mike, there used to be a fiber that was inbetween dacron and the "non" stretch type fibers, but it was finally pulled off the market because it would break. Thing was it was quiet, minor elongation, but you never new when it was going to break . . .

That been said, LBR said it . . .

TS+ is a good material, it is quiet on most bows I have put it on.

Never tried mixing Dacron and any "non" stretch materials, let us know how it works.

250 arrows and perfect.

If I'm not mistaken, Mike Treadway recommends the dacron and fastflight mix on his Black Forest longbows.  I've got one his strings and it seems to work just fine, although I have not compared it side-by-side to all dacron or all fastflight strings to see if it is better.
