I envy any of you guys that get to view/hear and hunt elk!!  We have a small but growing population up north but i doubt they'll ever be down in the flat wide open farmland where i live.

I'd just like to see and hear one at sunrise and get to stalk within bow range...unless my heart exploded from beating too fast!

Great pics!

Drew,
Take a weekend trip up to the Pidgeon River area in late September.  Look up a place in Atlanta called Elk View Cabins.  They give you an inexpensive, clean place to stay and show you where to find them.  It may only be a 'practice run' but you'll get to hear 'em bugle.  Keep putting in the application, you may just get lucky.  I was drawn the very first time I applied back in '95.

Good friends hunt elk with you.....Great friends put the guttin' gloves on before you do!!!

You guys are going to drive me crazy with this thread,I can tell already.

We are going antelope hunting and skipping elk but I don't know if I can do it.I love being in the mountains and hearing that first bugle and being around good friends.

You really haven't hunted the old fashion way until you've done it from one of these Indian houses.(The Tipi) "Glenn ST. Charles"

Here is my bull from last fall.

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

Was coming out from elk hunting in So. NM and the game dept had a check station set up to check for "CWD". Stopped to check out the horns and talk to the biologist. This was not mine but it was a beautiful set of horns...John

I too suffer from Elk Fever.  My screen saver is a big Utah bull screaming in my face.  Seriously, it bugles when I get an e-mail!

Here are some Colorado elk...
