I am still trying to find an arrow combo that I shoot well. I have a 45@28 longbow and 5/16 and 11/32 arrows and shoot the 5/16 a little better but the other day a guy said they were for kids so is that a fact or are they to thin to hunt whitetail with.I am not sure if I can get a 55-60 spine?

Bonehead statements like that crack me up
If you can find the spine and weight you like in a 5/16" shaft, it shoots well for you, and you can find the right broadheads for it, there's no reason not to use them.

Sure I used to shoot 5/16" 40 to 45# Norway pine out of a couple of different selbows I had. Those bows were not cut to center or even close.I'm not sure but you might find some heavier spine 5/16 in ramin wood.I bought the Norway pine from 3 Rivers but I don't think they carry them anymore.

I just got 100 5/16 Ramins from Dennis at  http://git-r-donearchery.com/  that spined from 48 to 60+ and weigh around 400 grains as bare shafts. These should out penetrate an identical arrow made with 11/32 or 23/64 shafts.

I shoot 5/16  .5 deflection out of my Howard Hills. Both are 48# @28. They fly good and hit hard not a kids toy   :)

I shot a deer with my 5/16ths last year and was happy as a kid in a candy store.Maybe that is what they were thinking?   :D
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

Geno...it was simply a statement made by someone who doesn't know any better.

I killed 2 deer last year with 5/16 shafts spined 40-45. One tipped with a zwickey and the other with an Eclipes. If they are kids arrows and you don,t want them send em to me LOL  :biglaugh:

I bought some 5/16" hickory shafts years ago that spine 55-60#, and I'm still shooting them. They are heavy, and tough as nails. If you can find some hickory shafts, I think you will be pleased.

Kids, indeed!

BTW, birch dowels make very nice arrows, but most of them spine in the mid-40's.

Good luck!

I have been shooting 5/16 Ramins out of Every Bow I own, and havent had Problem One with them. They can be Ornery to Straighten sometimes, but once they are Straight, they tend to stay that Way!!

I shoot 5/16 Alaskan Forgewoods that spine 70,72,80# out of all my 60-63# bows. Heavy shafts and tough as nails. is not a darn thing wrong with 5/16 shafts if ya can get them in the spine and weight you need.

The diameter doesn't matter-- it's the spine of the arrow that matters. If it spines right for your bow..shoot it.
BTW;;all my arrows are 5/16 wood or under 1916 in aluminum..and I ain't no kid.

I've been shooting 5/16 ramin forever. They spine between 40 and 60 on average. BUT...they may be right....they just may be for kids. My wife keeps telling me I need to grow up.
