Can you order a set of Longbow limbs for the Zipper Extreme Riser? I have one of the first Extremes that Bob made. A set of Longbow limbs would be great if they would work with the riser. Anyone tried it yet?

Do  a search, pretty sure CJones has one of the first sets and has them on an Extreme riser. I doubt Bob changed the shape of his limb attachments.

JL, no I haven't tried a Border but I have been lusting for one for a good while. It's only a matter of time!

Stickbow, The longbow limbs will fit on any zipper riser! I prefer the extreme riser myself over the standard.

I like the looks of those extremes. Has anyone chronoed one to see how much faster they are than a standard zipper? Can anyone compare them in speed to a River's Edge?

With the same limbs, the extreme riser should pull 4 lb's more.  They were designed with the shorter draw in mind.  With regard to speed (other than the LB's difference) I'm not sure there would be much difference except for the brace height difference.

Yes, I have and to give you an idea, I needed to shoot 61# limbs on the Standard to equal the performance of a 57# set up on an Extreme. I get around 185 fps with a 570 grain arrow drawing 57@27 on my Extreme. There is a definite performance advantage with the Extreme.

I'd love to put mine through a chrono...those are some nice numbers.

Zippers are my choice...the Extreme specifically.

Mine is shooting a little quicker than Norb's. Mainly be cause i'm drawing a lil over 29" and not shooting anywhere near 10gpp. Matter fact i'm shooting warranty voiding arrows!     I don't remember the exact numbers and don't want to be mis quoted but it's over 200fps.

I'm with Chad. I shoot unweighted GT 35/55's out of all of my bows. My Border smokes them at 211FPS, the Thermal is in the hi 190's and the Zipper is in the low 190's, by eye. They shoot well, fly straight and hit hard.

I don't doubt it...when I was shooting ~8gpi they screamed.  Now shooting closer to 10g and still have a super flat shooting bow right out to ~22y

I prefer the Extreme and am shooting it at 6.5...I draw right around 28 and know this thing is performing.  Someday I'll be around a chrono with it.

The nicest thing about my Extreme is that even at the 6.5 brace and an arrow in the low 8's (I've even shot mid/high 7's), it was dead quiet and not even the slightest hint of bounce.

I shoot at a brace height of 6.75. Smooth and quiet.

I'm guessing the zipper extremes are a little less forgiving with the lower brace height? Is this the case? ALso, do you find yourself hitting your arm a bit? I have not had good experience with brace heights under 7 in the past and prefer a minimum of 7.5.

I don't think I am getting anywhere near those numbers on my 1989 Standard ..and I am shooting 64#@28". I shoot 29 inch arrows...190 grain broadheads..arrows generally between 675 and 725 grains though..I might be getting around 170-175 FPS? Not sure...don't chrono.

The game doesn't seem to care how fast the arrow is as it 'zips' through them and lands in the dirt ten feet out the other side, so I don't either!

There isn't a finer bow built as far as shootability, fit and finish. You may like other styles better and that is what's great about living in the USA..lots of great choices..but the Zip is a "get it done' bow whichever one you choose -you will be pleased.

I bought two other makes of bow, sold off a bunch and was going to retire my Zip...but I just can't do that to the ole girl...she's a stone cold killer.

Ray -- Depending on your draw length, 170/5fps at ~11gplb is pretty nice to very good.  But like you said, it doesn't matter that much...but it sure is fun to go fast    :cool:  

The lower BH isn't for everybody; in general a lower brace is more critical, regardless of the equipment.  I find I hit my arm only with very bulky clothes AND w/o an armguard...I don't wear one normally or when it is warm, but if heavier clothes are on (meaning multiple layers), I use one (I would with any bow though, I guess).  It usually only catches me close to the hand, if anywhere...right at the end.  

Also, I am at the very bottom...6.5...most longbows are that or higher.


Try one sometime...they are nice regardless...if the Extreme isn't for you, the Standard might be...Bill is a great guy and puts out a top notch product.

i guess my post wasn't clear. I have a zipper-standard- built in 1989...built by Bob of course..and have owned as many as 10 of them..I am a big fan.

All the data I offered is from my Zipper..with a 28 inch draw.

It was clear...I think those would be good numbers out of a Standard with that heavy an arrow (out of any bow, really).

They are shooters, for sure.

Ray, those are Ashby-good numbers for sure! I have some of Bob's latest limbs that are in your weight range. I'll bring them for you to try out for fun.

BCD, I don't find the Extreme any less forgiving than any high brace height, forward riser bow I've ever shot. I prefer lower brace heights. Bows with high brace heights (7.75+) seem flabby and unstable to me. Yes, you do get a little contact on the arm guard, but as Howard Hill said, if it doesn't bite you some it isn't right (or something to that effect)

Norb, my hunting arrows from last season weighed 399. The ones i'm shooting right now are 392.
