Norwegian Bowhunter

Hello.
I am a Norwegian trad bowhunter going to Colorado on a elkhunt in 2008.
Do any of you have any ideas about how i can learn anything about elk calling?
Any dvd you know about?
Thanks!!

Hi Norwegian Bowhunter,

Below is a link to some of the best info on calling elk that is available.  He has some new ones coming out in July that will be like taking a walk in the woods with him as he shows you what to look for as far as elk sign and elk areas and set up areas.  Should be some great info.  The calling dvd's are available now and will teach you how to call, when to call, and what call to use when the elk is doing whatever.  These are very informative and you will gain a lot of info every time you watch or just listen.  I have both the cd's and dvd's and listen to them in my truck and watch them at home.  Good stuff and Paul is a all around good guy as well.  The link is below and good luck with your hunt in 2008.

FWIW, Many of Colorado's Elk only call at night now-too many people blowing bugles have made then distrustful of daylight bugles. Cow calling is a more subtle and perhaps more useful skill.

From what I have seen.....Tree man, is somewhat correct ,They start just at sun up, stop about 8:30 and start up again about an hour before sunset, During the peak.  However I have heard the occasional Late morning early eveningChirps, usually younger bulls.  The truth videos are pretty good.  they do a TON of bugling.

Barney

Wayne Carlton has some good DVD's. Elkcamp.com has some good general info. If you haven't seen Archery Elk-The Dream Hunt, you should. (It's my all time favorite)

Very good advice!

You'll notice the "luckiest" elk hunters have worn out boots.

I'm a first time Elk hunter, class of '07, going to Colorado public land in Sept.
I'm not bringing a single call, not even a cow chirp diaphragm. But more important to me, I've been studying the sounds Elk make for the last 3 years to help me understand their reason for doing the things they do.

Here's a link to an elk site that you can click on lots of different elk sounds and hear what they sound like.  You can also order dvd's of elk doing what elk do.  Not a hunting dvd but a great dvd to see elk and hear them in their natural areas.

Thank`s a lot friends!!
I am thankful for your help.
It is so many things to think about when you are going to a new country to hunt new  animals that are totally different from what i am used to!!

Hot Hap

What kind of animals are you hunting in Denmark? Moose? Hap

Norwegian Bowhunter

Hi Hap.
We are hunting rawdeer(18-25kg),rabbit,hare,fox, and all kind of birds.
They don`t have any moose in Denmark, but they have 3 kind`s deer there.
They hope that there will be a opening for us to hunt all kind of animals.
So we have to go to Denmark to hunt but the Danes are so nice and easy people!!

Norwegian Bowhunter, What part of Colo are you planning on hunting? There are plenty of trad hunters here that would probably be willing to offer some assistance. Depending of course if you are in the same area. Do you think you will have a draw area tag? or hunting an over the counter area?

Norwegian Bowhunter

Hi coaltroll.
We are hunting with Action Adventure Outfitters and i think we will be hunting near Montrose.
This is a hunt with a guide in the camp, he will tell us about the aerea and of course he knows the animals and their habits.
I am sure that it is like hunting in Norway, you have to know alot about the animals to be lucky.
It is not like going to Wall Mart and just pick one!

There are some good animals in that area, I wish you all the luck in the world. Also heard good things about the guide service you are using.  Shoot straight.

Norwegian Bowhunter

Thanks coaltroll.
I look foreward to that trip.
I am pleased that you have heard good things about them!!
I will come back to you about the time we will be there it is not planned yet.
But it will in tehe beginning of Sept.
Maby we could meet some fellow bowhunters and have a talk?
