I finally did it!! I harvested a big gobbler with trad gear. After work yesterday, I ran home and grabbed the gear heading for the woods, hoping that I could catch a tom on the way to the roost. I got in the blind at about four oclock and settled in for the evening. After about five minutes, I heard a turkey putting very nervously and saw the hen on the edge of the woods about sixty yards away moving away from me. I noticed movement to my left as a bobcat walked five feet from the blind. After the cat moved off down the creek, I noticed several more hens and one jake moving my way. The slowly fed towards my decoy and at under ten yards I drew and released on the jake. Only problem was the bottom limb of my recurve caught my leg and sent the arrow over the jake's back and sent them running taking my hopes with them. About thirty minutes passed and I decided I would call one more time then call it an evening. I made one series of yelps and put my call away. As I stood up in the blind to zip my hunting pack I looked out and saw nine turkeys at about forty yards running towards my decoy. I dropped to my knees, knocked an arrow and readied for the shot. The first bird in was a jake who ran up to the decoy and knocked it over. As the second bird entered my window I noticed he was a big gobbler. As he turned away, I drew, released and watched my arrow disappear into in his back. The big tom jumped and flew about ten yards then walked about thirty. I kept replaying the shot over and over until I noticed him wobble a couple times and then tip over. I sat in my blind for about ten minutes watching him through binos and thanking the man upstairs for giving me the opportunity to harvest such a beautiful animal. This is going to be a year I remember for a long time. My first child is due in eight days and I harvested my first turkey with trad gear. I'm hooked for life. Sorry the thread is so long, I get excited!!

It was a pop up. I don't even know the name of the blind. The cheap one they sell at Cabelas.

Yep, the best. After hearing how hard turkey's are to hunt, my wife told me at the beginning of the season she would let me buy a new recurve if I could harvest a turkey with my old one. Looks like she ate her words.
