i wanted to share a few pic's of the railroad spike hawk that was presented to me by Woodchucker at my hunt last year. it was made by Skillet from Tradgang andis very special to me. i know a few people had requested pic's of this type of hawk so here it is.

i would also like to share a couple pic's of a simple design spike hawk that a friend of mine made. he basicly forged out simple 1 piece spike blade design and pinned it through the slot of a hickory handle. this hawk is very solid and i think could be made rather easily. i use the spike end when stumping to free any arrows that get stuck.

I really like the spike hawk, because I think I could make one like that!  Thanks for the idea and sharing pics.  The one by skillet is great but way beyond me.  I only use stock reduction and haven't done any forging. Larry

Is this a throwing 'hawk?

Rob.

Rob,
yes, it will work as a throwing hawk as i have thrown it a bit, you probley want a little thicker blade on a throwing hawk though. it throws well for me but i have a couple beater hawks that i use for serious throwing. it works great to mark trails, medium pounding and medium chopping. i sure it would dispatch a critter if need be! i carry it often as it is light and was a gift that means a lot to me. the other simple hawk is scary sharp and goes with me often as well.

I kinda figured it wasn't.  Good.  Else that would have put this thread in jeopardy as throwin' hawks are not part of trad bowhunting.  In any event, real cool axe, I love'em.

Chuck,
it will be carried throughout bow season every year, going to stain and decorate the handle, got a few special feathers and beads i want to add to it.
i think you better get yourself one as well, might need to defend yourself if we get any more storms as the finger will be pointed at the dancin machine we know as Woodchucker!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice! I have one of Skillet's hawks and am very rarely without it.

You will get lots of years of good use out of it.

Here is a railroad spike hawk made by the late Rus Dixon. Rus took the time to make a similar hawk for the first place trophy in every class at the Alabama State championship in 99.

The next year Russ added his magic to the trohies with horse shoe knives.
