I've had the best luck with sitting on the ground right before daylight. When they come out of their nests, they climb down and feed. I also have had alot of fun hunting them out of a pop-up blind. They will nearly come inside the blind with you! Check the trees around you for concentrations of squirrel nests (mainly oaks or nut bearing trees). Take a seat and stay really still(this is why I like the pop-up). Eventually they will appear. Like I said above though ,I have the best luck at first light.
Just one more step please!

Ian, ya gotta be sneaky.  or, ya find one on the ground, and run at it with your hands over your head screaming like a banshee (seriously now, keep reading).  The darn thing will go straight up the nearest tree instead of running on the ground, and sit up there out of reach and look back to see what the heck that was.  Now is a good time to shoot !  This is my favorite way.  My friends think I am nuts.

You can also use a tree stand in squirrel infested areas. That way you won't loose your arrows, plus the squirrels seem less threatened when your in a tree than on the ground.

Pop up ground blinds are awesome for squirrels.  They forget within minutes that it holds a hunter or monster or whatever they think of us.

I've been deer hunting with my recurve before wearing a ghillie suit. Under acorn trees. I could literally reach out and poke one with an arrow if I wanted to. This past season, I had one about 2 feet from my head, sitting on a limb. I didn't know what I was gonna do if he would have pounced on my head. Justin

My suggestion, get set up under a nice tree with food for the squirrels with some camo. Be very still. They see movement well.
