Carbon questions

Assenheimer recurve cut past center 50# @ 26". I bought 35/55 goldtips instead of 55/75 after taking the advice given here. Give me your opinion on where to start my tuning at, or your setup if yours is close to mine.

Weight tubes or brass inserts or both? I would like to end up at 9gpi or just over.

How do I go about recutting the arrow and removing the inserts and reinstalling them? I'm shooting into a "Block 4x4" so I have to glue them in well enough so they won't pull out when removing the arrow from the target.

I'd use inserts. I glue them in with hot melt glue and have never had one pull out on any target. I don't know what your arrows weigh to start with, but I'd try the inserts without cutting the arrows first, then start trimming as needed. Carbons are supposed to be cut with a special saw, but I have heard of guys cutting them with an abrasive wheel. Make sure you wear eye protection and breathing protection if you are going to cut them yourself.

I shoot a 55 pound longbow and draw 28" so my setup is different. I have been using 29" Carbon Express Terminator Hunter 45-60 arrows with 100 grain inserts and 125 tips. They fly great from my longbow, my 49# Herters, and my daughter's 45# Black Bear recurve (at my draw anyway). They are just over 600 grains.

Hot melts have failed for countless shooters with carbons, and even when used as a temporary glue it leaves a residue that prevents the proper 24 hr flexible epoxy from bonding properly.

You can fletch a couple as far forward as possible and trim untill you are up to the fletch before needing to re fletch.  Then re use the fletch untill you establish the right length needed
100 gr brass inserts are the best way to add weight, then you can use heavy points to get where you want.

Thanks Pete for the tip on cutting nock end. Not sure of the epoxy your talking about. I have always used Pine Ridge Instant Arrow adhesive basically some wicked super glue.

8up, you may not need any additional weight.  I shoot 29" 35/55's with 150 grain points out of my 50@28 Widows.  If I were you, I'd play with different point weights before going to heavy inserts.  When I use weight tubes, I find they don't effected the spine of my arrows.
