What bowyers making bows in 2023 that trap to belly of their longbows?  I might be in the market for a custom bow this year (if my longbow piggy bank has enough in it =).

Trapezoid taper to belly like how JD berry does or how Jerry & Rick did on the GN traditional & critter gitter or Frank San Marco did on his ASL bows.  I saw a HillJack by bivouac (Jim Belcher) that has some belly trapping, but that's about it.  If you know of a bowyer today doing it.  Please leave their recommendation / contact in the thread.

Appreciate it

Like you said JD Berry, Miller, Sunset Hill and I think Howard Hill archery still has a slight trap.  Not sure about any of those first three  making you a custom anytime soon though.  I would call Berry first.  Not sure if Miller is still making bows??  Nate is waaaay busy and behind (I am in line somewhere).

Michael Guran

Yes, my new Tembo is slightly trapped on the belly, not nearly as much as the JD's bows are

I looked at a new Critter Gitter at the Compton rendezvous, it has a trapped belly. Very nice bow.

Is Nate still running the glass shop full time ?

Yes, Nate is running it and he is swamped with glass work, also some recent family events, and is having trouble just getting out behind the bow to hunt let alone getting time to work on stuff.  I hope things ease off so he can get my bow done!   :biglaugh:  Seriously though, I hope things get better for him.

Yup, not afraid of work, but when it starts consuming your hunting time .... I reeaallly really dislike it ...A LOT !

If you're looking at a Hilljack, it does have trapped limbs. I have one and don't have anything bad to say about it. Jim is a great guy to deal with and he makes a great bow.

Bighorn Ramhunter longbows had trapezoid limbs that made them one of the greatest longbows ever made. Of course no longer in business, but if you can find a used one for sale, give it a serious look!

You won't be disappointed!

I was lucky enough to find one of those old Bighorn longbows. It is my favorite bow, but recovery from shoulder surgery has me shooting some of my lighter stuff for now.

I never heard the term but after googling it I now have an answer to why my limbs looked that way after having weight reduced.  However I didn't notice if they were tapered like that before the reduction.

Scratch that.  He trapped the back, not the belly.  My mistake.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

My RER Vortex that was made by Kevin Termaat is trapped on the belly.  From everything that I have read most bowyers trap the back either to decrease poundage or performance, and leave the belly alone because compression forces are usually more limiting.  That being said, that bow has tens of thousands of arrows through it, with no problems.
