Do you shoot at predators when you get the chance? I sometimes give them a pass, but I called this coyote in by squeaking on the back of my hand. Case skinned him out, and will make a quiver from his hide.

Yes. I will take out a coyote any time. Getting a coyote within stick bow range isn't easy. Congratulations on getting it done.

They get a pass as a professional courtesy; they are out there every day and night while I'm at home dry and warm.
You'll never kill enough Coyotes to make a difference, just like you'll never wipe out hogs with a bow or a rifle.
That's just me, I don't worry too much with what other folks choose to do. Coyotes are hard to kill with a bow so it's an accomplishment when you do.
Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.

I never pass on a chance to shoot Coyotes. And I disagree that you can't make a difference w taking them out. But it has to be with trapping.

A few years ago I became a certified trapper here in Alberta. I worked w a local trapper for a few years taking out coyotes on farms I hunted after the bow season. In both seasons we averaged 20+ Coyotes from two farms. Its legal to snare them here and it worked amazingly well.

My first year on my own I got 42 and two fox off of 3 farms. I did see an immediate increase in deer numbers.
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

No more fawns for this one

Got my eye out for this guy. If I don't get him during deer season I'll trap him In January. My phone and email are loading up now with folks who need help getting rid of these.

Absolutely!  Took 8 coyotes off our farm last year (7 snares 1 called in).  Made quite a difference in our rabbit and turkey population as well as seeing fawns make it to maturity.  Short lived--- more have filtered in and need to be dealt with.

mgf

I've only had a few come by in bow range but never made a move. One came by on a trail under 10 yards away while I was set up on the ground.

I hunted one farm a few years ago and one the owner's rule was that you had to shoot them if you had the chance. I never saw one.

I've never seen or gotten a picture of a coyote on my little property.

mgf

The real danger to my rabbit population is neighbors who think their cats are entitled to the free use of my ground.

I kill every one I can.  I'll run em over with the truck, shoot em with a rifle, shotgun or bow or pistol.   Hate em.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

The only good Yote.... Is a DEAD Yote!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

FWIW, If you have Yotes around, don't count on recovering you bad hit deer in the morning...

All you'll find is bones :banghead:

If I get the chance I will take the shot. I don't care for coyotes.

One trick I use if I have to leave a critter out overnight is hang up a sock or t-shirt at last blood.

Given the chance I would always take a shot at a coyote.

Not sure I can get that angry at an animal trying to survive and lay some hate on them but if I see a predator out there, I'll try to coax one in. Not easy to do in my parts as they are super aware of  hunters and are never fooled twice.

rastaman

Will take the shot if the opportunity presents itself.

Certainly relish opportunities at yotes and bobcats.
