Wood arrows

Who here uses wood arrows for hunting? I'm thinking of hunting with a set I have. Post pics of some of your kills and I will do the same when I get a deer!

I've only killed two deer with woods and that was up at KennyM's place in Sept.
I use carbon and wood.

This thread will get a ton of replies and pics.  Lots of hunters here do.

I killed a deer with a self bow, trade point, and hand planed, white pine shaft. All of the above I made.

Been using em for 60 years come december...tried aluminum and carbon once in awhile but always go back to wood

Since ditching the wheels I've only hunted with cedars, some that I purchased a while back and others that I made myself once I bought all the fixin's to build my own, which I really enjoy.

Wood arrows are the best.  I've been making my own for many years and it is addicting.  It's not hard to make a quality matched set but does take time and commitment.  It is a part of my enjoyment of shooting a longbow.  I truly enjoy the process.  And they will shoot every bit as well as the carbons.

Mostly use Douglass Fir, but have used and like Sitka Spruce also.
I love shooting wood arrows. Just something about them.

I started shooting trad in 2015, and all but 1 of my kills have been with wood arrows.  I agree with what has been said above, there is just something about them that seems right with longbows.  I just started making my own this year and shot a deer in early October with them, and to me it adds to the enjoyment.

Ha, none of my bows have ever been "polluted" (tongue in cheek guys, tongue in cheek) with a carbon or an aluminium arrow 

Those other type of shafts are extremely good shafts, no doubt about it, but for me, it's wood all the way.

Hunting, stumping, any and all general mucking around, I reckon wood makes a fantastic arrow 

And I really like making them too.....

I used wood arrows when I first got into traditional archery back in the 80's and killed several animals with them but quit using them for some reason. I just got back into them this year and I am loving them!! There is just something about the smell of cedar arrows when you are working on them in your shop.

I don't shoot them currently simply because they are hard to pull from layered target butts.  The finish heats during friction of penetration and seems to stick to the target material.
However, I always found them more forgiving and easier to tune than even aluminum.
I keep hoping that a compressed cedar shaft will return... every so often a rumor surfaces about someone making them again, but so far that has not been the case.

Just set up two bows again with wood arrows after filling buck tag. I practice with broadheads all season and I find I have my favorite wood arrows. Each arrow sometimes has it's own personality. A matched dozen may have one or two arrows that require some tweaking, like a different weight broadhead....or sometimes they become a practice arrow.However, it's rewarding to get those "perfect" fliers that end up in your hunting quiver.

I waited a long time to get wood arrows but I just enjoy them.  I'm not sure why but the way they look in flight is just mesmerizing to me.

Killed Bear, Elk and deer with wood and Im not a good shot - wood and trad go together, not knocking carbon, they have some great pluses...

I have been using wood for many years now. I prefer them over the other materials.

This is my one and only wood arrow kill.  Bow was a 40#@29" Toelke Pika which I drewaybe 26" at the time.  Arrow was a 5/16 tapered cedar Wapiti w a Grizzly single bevel.  Total weight was just under 400grs.  Quartering away and walking.  Arrow penetrated into offside shoulder.  He dropped within 80yards.  I was very pleased w the performance.  This was also the only deer I recall shooting using a fixed crawl.
