This question is for those of you who, like me, love Jim's MOAB.

What other longbows most remind you of the MOAB?

As my years are climbing, I find myself needing to drop a few lbs of draw weight.  I'm wondering if there is anything out there that exceedingly similar to the MOAB and is currently being made.  As much as I try, I've been unsuccessful in finding another southpaw MOAB available.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

The Morrison Shawnee and Massey Longhorn.  I shot all three and they were all pretty close except for a price difference.  Don't think any of these are being made right now.

Not sure really.I had a 60 and 62 inch MOAB and a couple Thunderstick 111s.Thunderstick 111s are pretty rare as well especially in lower poundages. The grip on those Thundersticks are nice. You probably like that grip as well as the bow obviously.

Maybe you could get the grip duplicated if you find a Hybrid you like.Send the bow in if you find a custom you you wanna go with.I  might be looking at a 60 inch Whistler from Toelke or Centaur with that grip if I were in your shoes. So many good choices these days really with the proliferation of Hybrid longbows.

Big Jim Buffalo and Widow PL are nice hybrids in my experience and would most likely be able to duplicate the T-Stick grip. Those 2 bows are similar IMO.Primal Techs are looking really good as well with thier 1 piece hybrid or 2 piece.

Hate to offer advice on bows. Its pretty personel and we all have different tastes and likes. You will get opinions here. But maybe nothing will quite be like the original you got.

I apologize, missed the "currently being made" part.  I had a TS III removed from the back of my F150, used the insurance money to get the "new" MOAB.  One of the several bows I own that will remain, 62#@27" MOAB will be shootable for several more years.  Couple of my 65#+ bows require a few more push-ups to continue to shoot regularly.  I think if someone were to clone the MOAB they would be a very busy bowyer.

My mistake, I shot his D/R longbow ???  Compared it against the MOAB and Massey.  It was 20 years ago!  Must have been a Dakota.

I recently acquired a 62" MOAB, and am blown away by the design. Fast, absolute dead in hand, and whisper quiet. Jim sure knew what he was doing.
I was thinking the same thing,,whatever happened  to the original forms? What current Bowyer could duplicate this incredible design to a Tee?

Yes. Dakota or Cougar. I liked the Cougar better and it's semi close to MOAB.

Sir;
I shot all three Morrison, Massey and MOAB.  The only REAL difference was price.  All within about $150 price spread.  I'm sure I would have been pleased with any of them, but am super glad I chose the Thunderstick.  This bow is like a sixth finger on my hand.

What about a 1-piece Slammer by Leon Stewart?  Anyone have both and able to comment on similarities?
Ken Adkins

That Slammer Special might be worth looking at with its shorter riser than the Slammer at 18 inches. The risers probably pretty close to the Moab as far as dimensions. It got a pretty aggressive limb.

I had the regular Slammer in 64 inches and it was nice bow!

Interesting thread.  I remember the Morrison Cougar, not sure it its made anymore, but it was a great shooting bow overall, and had similar lines to the MOAB.

abbatoys

I have a MOAB and I have not found anything comparable..

Of the Slew of bows I've owned, the Thunderstick MOAB is one of the best bows ever designed.  Somewhere in bow world is a 60" 52 @ 28 bow that say made for Craig Phelps.  I would love to have it back!

I'll have to bring 60" 62#@27", "Augenblick", German for 'blink of the eye', out of semi-retirement.  Smooth and easy to shoot.  PDQ as well.  Have a Big River LB that is 3# heavier and a tad faster.  MOAB is my fall back bow if I get to where 65-70# is too much.  Definitely would like another MOAB!!

I have a TSIII and MOAB that I have had since they were new.  Best overall R/D longbows that I've ever shot and I am consistently surprised that nobody is making a clone of them considering how many people you see looking for used ones.  Definitely the easiest longbow I have tried to just pick it up and shoot well from arrow #1....they just shoot where you look and they're dead in the hand and really comfortable.

Hopefully someone will copy them because they'd definitely sell.  I have seen a few local or regional bowyers making similar bows, but nothing national.
