Bow Purchase?

Hello all, trying to figure out a good place to look for custom made recurve bows for purchase. I have a samick sage. But once I have shot for a while id like to upgrade. Any suggestions? Looking for good quality but not outrageous price. Thank you!

Mike Ballinger with 7 Lakes Archery is located in NC and makes custom bows for a reasonable price.  Mike Treadway of Treadway Archery lives in western NC and has been making good bows for 30+ years.

Read as much as you can, ask all the questions you can, shoot as many different bows as you can.  Then flip a coin.  There are many great bowyers out there.

Okay thank yall, any advice as far as what to look for when getting a new bow. Does wood type matter? And more? I havent shot enough bows to know exactly what I like.

I suggest you hold off of doing anything until you can get to a fairly big shot with several vendors and perhaps a trading blanket.  Save your coin until you've handled quite a few and hopefully you will find "THE ONE".  I am familiar with a guy from Texas that has no less than 30 custom recurves and at last contact was still searching!

With spring just around the corner and the 3D season starting I'd suggest you go to as many shoots and shoot as many different bows you can. Most dealers will let you shoot their bows. The Tenn. Classic will be at the end of April and I know of at least 3 or 4 dealers there, maybe more. The Howard Hill Classic in June and the Kalamazoo Expo is next weekend.
The wood in a glass bows is pretty much for aesthetic so personal preference will help you with that choice. There is a little performance difference with different wood choices but Shooting a bow will seal the deal for you.

I agree go to shoots.Thier is one in Florida called Traditional Bowhunters of Florida I think?Around Ocala.Not too far from NC.Or any others that are within driving range.

Good advice above. Nothing wrong with your Samick Sage.  Once you get your shooting form and accuracy under control, you will be better informed  as to what weight, and length bow will be the best fit.  I don't think you can make a decision as to what you need right away.  With more time practicing, you'll be more prepared to make a choice.   If you're a crappy shot, which you're not, a custom made bow won't make you better.  Learn to shoot the beans out of the Samick, work on your form, and by all means as advised above, go to shoots, try different bows and see what you like.  A longer bow, less or more draw weight, what brand, and grip style are a few decisions to be made.

Consider joining Carolina Traditional Archers.  They have an archery range and host monthly 3D shoots near Hickory, NC.  The bowyers that I mentioned in my post above are members and would be at most shoots.  Most guys would be glad to let you test shoot a few arrows from their bows.  It seems you are very new to traditional archery so I would strongly urge you to try some different bows before you buy since bow selection is very personal.  There is no "best" bow out there.  If your budget is limited consider a quality used bow.  Often you can pick up a quality used bow for half the cost of a new model.
