Yesterday afternoon I hooked up the boat and headed to the lake.  I had a stand there I hadent hunted in about 3 weeks .  It's a nice set up where it's thick with thorns and cedars and underbrush.  I cut away some branches over the summer so I could pull the boat in quietly.  When I beach the boat I just sneak up the hill 35 yds to the stand.  From the stand there is another 20 yds of woods that then joins agriculture fields.  It's a natural funnel with the main trail 12 yds or so from the stand.

So I got to the stand at 4:20 and immediately see a tree shaking maybe 50 yds away.  With binos I see it's a good buck and he takes the tree some more and heads my direction.

I grab my 59 Kodiak and get ready

He closes the distance 40 yds.....then 30.....and then PLOP.  He lays down!  He's facing me just inside 30 yds.  I'm in ready to shoot stance and can't move now....I hear the local sawmill shut down, that means it's 4:30 now.  Can't believe all this has happened in 10 minutes.

So there we are.  He chews his afternoon snack while I remain in a frozen state.  I try not to stare right at him.

He checks the wind frequently sticking that nose high in the air and throwing those antlers back.  I remain frozen....

He occasionally reaches back to itch this or that with his nose or antlers.....when he does this I can shift my weight a little.

At one point he reaches way back, almost rolling on his side exposing his chest and belly.....I remain frozen.

Finally he gets up....and I'm still ready.

He works his way along the trail but then veers off to head toward the bean field.  As he reached an opening at 17-18 yards I let a little baaaa to stop him and the arrow was gone...zipped through both lungs and the buck crashed off.
I looked at my phone and it was 5:05, and thought man that was an exciting 45 minute hunt!!
The buck went 100 yds or so....
Hope ya enjoyed

45 minute hunt, but lots of preparation for that moment.  Congratulations on the work paying off.
