Yeah, the show edits, but contestants self film.  Actually quite well if you ask me. It's a really neat show overall and I have watched all of the seasons with my wife.  I'm impressed, especially in recent seasons, with the skills some of these people have. For crying out loud some dude shanked a musk ox and killed it...I mean the show can drag on a bit but some folks have skills impressive enough for me to want to watch. Most people simply tap out due to loneliness. That guy tapped due to a panic attack this recent episode. Mental toughness is key, and seems like Clay is a killer so should do well.

Gene Wensel

I feel confident that Clay will represent our passion very well. He's the right one for the challenge. My guess is that Clay will prevail unless he hurts himself. Rumor has it that Tom Hank's little buddy "Wilson" washed ashore while Clay was skinning out something.....  :biglaugh:

Now you guys know it's TV, it's like watching Be Witched you know half that stuff ain't real you know. :-)

I'll agree that most of the shows on TV nowadays are staged, but I'm going to have to disagree on Alone being staged. First and foremost I don't see Clay participating in something that would be staged like this. Secondly, the format of the show doesn't lend itself to things being staged very well. Clay certainty couldn't stage that mountain lion coming into his campsite. Thwre is no cameramen there telling them what to do or how to play things up. I don't believe a lot of those shows, but I believe Alone to be a legitimate, show it as it is show.

I'm not sure it's wise to assume that this show follows the same format as other 'reality' TV shows.  Being "ALONE' and self filming for an undetermined length of time in a natural environment while surviving/thriving on one's personal skills and fortitude seems somewhat different from other shows to me.  I'll suppose I'll continue to watch and try to figure out which "half of that stuff ain't real".  Being ALONE for 100 days seems REAL to me.

I really enjoy the show.....Their choices are always interesting and the scenery is always beautiful. Fun to watch.

I tape it on Thursday and watch it on Friday so I can fast forward through the commercials, I hate commercials. Matter of fact; I tape every show I like to watch for just that reason.

Perhaps one day I'd watch it. Sounds interesting

Never heard of it.  Seldom watch TV, have no dish or cable.   :o

I envy you.
Anyway I have a feeling clay won.
Since it was filmed last yr I've notice clay splits his time between living in idaho and Florida in the winter.
Just my guess.  Wishing him luck .
Oh and when he said " I should have rushed the mountain lion "  I thought whaaat!.
Kevin

Based on his videos on Youtube it seems they have been doing that for several years.

Some people are so skeptical about everything.   :nono:
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

It seems we've got a skeptical cat on this thread

I think as long as you go into it knowing it's not all real, and a lot of it is entertainment. Some are more staged than others. Alone looks like a show I would watch, and I like Clay.

I always hated John Stossle. I guess he found out that not all of it was fake.

I hope Clay does well. He is very articulate and should represent our beliefs well. Mike

Hmmmmm . . . maybe we see more of certain people based on what the editors feel makes for good TV viewing each week.  As it's not 'LIVE' television, the editors put together what they want us to see, but that has little/nothing to do with the reality of each contestant's actual experiences.  We can each speculate on how real (or not) the show is, but lacking any true inside information, it remains just that - 'speculation'.

Can't remember which episode it was. They dropped the guy off, he walked into the woods where he saw a fresh pile of bear poop. It scared him so bad he went back out to the beach and tapped out. Kinda reminded me of .....you know who
