Chek-mate longbow question 72" Trad

Hi all,

This is my first post, so before anything, thanks for having me!

I've been shooting my first bow, (a Chek-mate 72" Traditional longbow) for the good part of this last year and I'm feeling pretty grounded with my fundamentals at this point.

I was thinking of playing around with the brace height, but I'm having trouble finding anything online about this bow.

Anyone have any experience or recommendations when it comes to Chek-mate longbow???

Try contacting Boorman Archery in Vancouver BC. They are the Canadian dealer for Chek Mate and if they can't help you they may be able to put you in contact with the bowyer.

they wont know that sounds like a very very old model for a 72" Does the OP have a model name? I can ask him personally.

heck better yet post a picture of it. if its 72" could be one of larry's original straight limbed bows. only seen those in the museum of boormans.

It's actually named "Traditional" and oops it's a 70".

CM1017 is serial number.

Hey Greg a little chek-mate history for ya.I used to hang out a lot at Boorman archery back in the late 70's and became a good friend of Ron Boorman and got to know Dorthy and Larry quite well ,I then moved to Abbotsford and got to know them very well ,spent evenings in there shop. Over the years I've probably owned over 100 Chekmate bows .This is way before Mark got involved in the company .about 1978 they came out with there Hill styled longbows .there were varying styles.Iowned 4 or 5.In 1984 my wife got me there new Goldenhawk hill styled lb made with yew cores and clear glasss ,68" and 60#, I still have this bow and it's probably the best hill style bow I've ever shot.It is amazing and will die with me lol.Dorothy and Larry were amazing people and exceptional bowyers, grab one if you can find them.

I talked to Marc. Said there were a few US dealers that sild bows by that name. Is it a broom type handle? There is also the hill style grip and reverse hill. Id its the first says 7 1/4 - 1/2. But can go bit lower with heavy arrow to 7.

not a fan of them personally. The golden hawk. Keep good care of it if you like it. That jig got canabalized for the stamp river R/D.

Yes the stamp river is a RD bow ,the golden hawk is a true Hill style bow ,totally differant animals, like comparing apples to oranges. For those that shoot true hill bows, and today there are many they truly understand the challenges.If Dorothy and Larry were still building bows today I'm sure they would be building lots of them with the popularity of hill style bows today.

Greg, bring the brace height down to 6" and get a good string ,like an SBB fast flight, it really makes a difference.

what I mean is the glue jig no longer exists. it was salvaged for parts. I like a good hill myself but they really don't sell well over here.
