There are some really nice bows being built this year. I decided that I had better up my game some, so I went over to my local wood supplier to see what I could find. I was thinking of a nice piece of zebra wood but to my surprise I was told that I need an appointment to go upstairs where all the big pieces of wood are. ☹️
On the main level there are big slabs, turning blanks and more expensive planed wood, but I still came away with a couple of gems.

The wide one is kingwood. 35" x8 1/2" and the other is canary wood. I already drew a riser on the canary wood. Pretty isn't it? It has a lot of color in it and I'm wondering whether I should add any accents to it. I would appreciate any input.
If anyone has experience with canary wood, do I need an i-beam or is it strong enough on its own.

Wow! Very nice. I didn't see any blackwood today. I would have bought some. It makes great accents and I want some for making trumpet calls.

  Nice looking stuff there Maxie...

Bue the bow is about 64 1/2" ntn, with a 19" riser... Takes a 62" string... The shape will change slightly when I start working on it and put the tip blocks on...

Thanks, Stic...  That's because I neutralized it... I don't need it setting my form on fire while gluing it  up...  ;) :)

Dave, I've always used it with another wood. I'm not sure if its strong enough as a stand alone riser wood. I always feel better about any riser if its laminated with some accents. Here's a couple I've used it in, not nearly as nice as the stuff you have there.

I made a bit of progress. Got it pulling 4" shy of full draw and the tips narrowed to just over 3/8". Not much set at this point. Mostly just some of the reflex from flipping the tips pulling out and settling in. Next step is to glue on overlays, recur nocks then finish tillering by balancing in tte hand with video. And sand in the last little bit. The bottom/left limb is definitely a bit strong but shouldn't take much to balance and bring it in. Then it's decorating time, probably gonna get a ball python shed.
