While not new to Trad Gang(paid member/Associate sponsor), I have been "lurking in the shadows" for the past few years due to work/family responsibilities.  My wife and I recently semi-retired to the great state of Kentucky... Can I get a Woo Hoo!??

Glad to be back onboard with you all!  Navigating the whole hunting scene here in KY has been interesting.  I have yet to find anyone open to allowing hunters on private property and at this point WMU (public) are my only options.  Any thoughts/ideas from my fellow Kentuckians would be appreciated!  I have been stomping around the Taylorville Reservoir so there may be some possibilities there.  We live just outside Louisville.

Hey Dan, wondered about you...  Welcome back We did some deals in the past.....  Good luck to ya...

BrownA5

Bryan, good to hear from you!  Good to be back.... too stay this time.  Hope all is well with you and yiu have had a good season!

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

You are not to far from Fort Knox. Hunting on military bases can be a chore...but good number of animals and some good bucks get taken off there every year.

You are also not far from Otter Creek. Worth looking into.

Dan, give me a shout in a week or two. I am originally from the "bluegrass" and still have all of my family and close friends living there. I will set you up with some contacts. Robert

Bet it's good to be back.

Did you used to sell soap?

BrownA5

It is good to be back!  We did and still do sell home camo/bug soaps (mostly my wife, actually).  That is where we had been Associate Sponsors here on Trad Gang.  We also attended ETAR in the past and set-up tables there as a vendor.

BrownA5

Smag, thanks for the "x2" on Fort Knox.  I see they have a number you can call during the week and actually get a person.  Will do that tomorrow and see about getting registered to hunt there.

Welcome to the Bluegrass State! I can't help you with spots since we're hours apart, but if things there are like they are down this way, private land is extremely hard to find unless you're willing to lighten your wallet quite a bit. The good ol' days are gone...

From what I have seen I would agree.  I will keep trying though.  Thanks again!

Kentucky has some pretty good public WMAs.  I have not lived there for over 40 years so it would be hard to direct you to anything specific.  Land Between the Lakes in western KY has 200,000 acres and is a fun place to hunt if you don't mind the drive.  Pretty much any of the military bases are good (Ft. Knox, Ft. Campbell, Bluegrass Army Deport).  Military base hunts are tightly controlled with lots of base-specific regulations.  Join United Bowhunters of Kentucky and that will introduce you to some local bowhunters and they should be able to point you in several directions.

Visit area archery shops. Try Chickasaw Archery Club in Sheperdsville. Chance to meet other archers/bow hunters who would share info.

BrownA5

Thank you for that information.  Shepardsville is not that far from so I will look up the club and make some contacts.  I really appreciate all the information I am receiving via this thread!

BrownA5

JohnV, thank you for the information about United Bowhunters of KY.  I will check them out.  Also, even before moving to KY I have been interested in the Land Between the Lakes.  I will have to make a drive and go see it.

X2... on LBL, if you are willing to drive that far. LBL is great. Daniel Boone National Forest is the other direction....some good spots out there but it is well...spotty. By that I mean finding game and the actual public land (it is not one solid block... you got to watch you boundless/property lines).

Appreciate the x2 on LBL.  As far as Daniel Boone National forest (and other places for that matter) Onyx maps is a great tool that has kept me out of trouble many times, particularly in Colorado!
