I'm making a bamboo core bow but was thinking of making it look pretty using a veneer on the belly & back.
How thick are veneers usually?

.030 is pretty good on glass bows, if you get too thin, they get kind of fragile once the glue is applied.

Caramelize your Bamboo and skip the faux finish ;)

I use some .023 without issues,  but Kenny is right on about handling with care.

I recently bought some buckeye burl veneers that had actionboo backing. I assume because the buckeye is way too fragile on its own.

I have been using .020. Not ground veneers, but knife cut.

On veneers I think are gonna be fragile , I lay veneer on edge of bench with glass beside it , apply glue to both , then flip glass over on veneer so I don't have to pick the veneer up with glue on it. Surprising how much the glue weighs up on a thin veneer.

I grind my veneers to .030, I know others that go to .025. Im doing up a bow right now with some figured eucalyptus veneers from a veneer supplier and they are .020. Delicate lil buggers to work with. Real pain in the butt to scarf joint them together for the back. I guess if I had my preference Id do .030, but you can get some really cool packages of veneers through various veneer suppliers. This is the first bow Ive done using those, so will be interesting to see how it goes when I glue it up.
