Snakey Osage 2020

I got this Osage Stave at the Tennessee Classic in 2019.
I may or may not have it ready May 2021 for the classic.
68" or 70" NTN

about 73" long







I got the width down to size



I have some propeller to take out on the limb close to the camara

Nice snaky stave. Did you get it from Clint?
I'd leave the twist alone until first brace. You may not need to do anything. Snaky staves are iffy enough. No need to add another chance of unnecessary strain unless it is needed.

Yes and James got the sister stave.
I was thinking the same, but it's about 6" off the fade and a straight area, so maybe.
My luck has not been very good on snakey staves so some of those dog legs will get backed with linen and wrapped with serving.

I shot one years ago that looked like that. my body vibrated for awhile after the shot

The area near the handle with the whoop-ti-dos and snakes could be a concern because the growth rings above and below each other could be running different directions. There were a few staves that came from a tree in KY at Pappy's a few years ago like that and only 2 or 3 survived becoming bows. At least this area on your stave is at the handle.
Just because a bow is snaky doesn't mean it won't shoot well and smoothly. Here is an example of one that Clint collaborated with someone else at the Classic a few years ago that shot quite well and smoothly.

The 3 snakey bows to the right of center in the below pic may be the only survivors from that tree...


...and this is a stave that was given to me at the Classic a few years ago that I contemplated for a few years before giving it to Will Harris to build a bow because I chickened out. Will made at least one of those 3 bows above. This snakey stave below that I gave to Will was a corner fence post for over 60 years before it was given to me.

This picture shows 2" fades, but I changed it to 4" fades, maybe that will help

This is the 4th one I'm trying to make, the first 3 did not work out for me.

I glued on some Linen on the back of one end and wrapped with string serving at the dog leg for now.
I been doing some floor tillering and have both limbs bending some.

Looking good. That's a good idea with the string wrap in those critical places. I never thought of doing that.
