Hi All,
Does anyone have any advice on using garrapa as a backing for an Ipe longbow?

KenH

Never heard of Garapa wood until now.   BTW, Garrapa (two r) is another name for ticks...,

Indeed....have  you heard of Carbon or glass backed Ipe?

I think Bamboo baked Ipe is the best all wood laminated bow one can make ;)
There is nothing better to back Ipe with.
my 2 cents

Hickory backed ipe makes a very good bow also and maybe hard maple/ipe.

Thank you Pat
Unfortunately those are hard to come by where i am.
Garapa stats look reasonably close to hickory (and I have some) so was wondering what would happen if I made two 1/8" slats of garapa as a backing lam for some Ipe I have. Do you think its tension abilities are sufficient?
