Double silencers

Hey guys, I am setting up my new Predator recurve and have notices some guys using 4 silencers as opposed to the standard 2. I have 2 dynapuffs at the moment but coincidentally have two more I could use.

Is it just more is better? Why go to 4? Is there a real difference? Anyone listen to Tradlab's silencer study which showed not much noticeable difference between all the different materials?

I just got a used bow,and the person I got it from had a set up like that. It is extremely quiet,but that could also be a lot the bow.

I'll try it on some of my others because it's so quiet,and see how they work on other bows.

My only bows are 66" Blackwidow longbows, and after a fair bit of testing I've been running 4 small wool puffs pretty much from when I'd worked out what worked best for me.

I tried the Blackwidow supplied string "Spiders", then cats whiskers, wool puffs, and many combinations and distances apart of each. Everything worked at silencing the string, but I stumbled on an outstanding combination.

Shooting from inside my shearing shed out to the target outside lets me hear the bow noise the best, and the quietest by far has been the 4 small puffs positioned about 8" & 12" from the bottom limb tip, and 8" & 14" from the top limb tip.

This, coupled with a 11-12 GPI wooden arrow, makes all three bows really quiet, just a dull muffled "Thump". And this is inside the shed, when shot outside it's even quieter still.

I always use two sets on recurves. A standard set spaced normally and the second set woven into the twists at the ends to soften any string slap. I have tried every silencer on the market and made my own. My preference for silencing-to-weight ratio is the woolly whispers sold at the suppliers. They are inexpensive and work great.
I got a new BW PTF this spring and expected to have to fuss with it a bit to make it as quiet as I want. But built my usual string and it was super quiet right away.  BTW, this bow has turned out to be the quietest bow I have owned. I am shooting less arrow weight than I ever have. (9.4 gpp). The bow is 59@30".
Also, remember after a couple thousand shots you might want to replace the silencers.[attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]

You can trim them up for a neater look if you find you are having plenty of silencing taking place and can loose a few strands. Weaving them through the tight twists at the limbs tips is a little tricky.

The set-up Tedd is showing is very similar to Mountain Muffler strings.

I've used one set of Bowhush twice....

That being,  take one unit and cut it in half and use those two at the 1/4th position,  split the other unit and use those two at the 1/3rd position.

The 1/4th and 1/3rd position will work really well for any bow or bow length....not to mention the easiest formula to remember and you don't even need a measuring tape.

Not sure who tradlab is but my results vary from theirs on effectiveness of the different types.
The 1/4&1/3 method works both trad bow and modern bows.
