Could you talk about the area hunted and camp / transporter you used? I di that trip once and want to again. The friend I hunted with has since passed, but it was the best hunt I've ever done. JM

Love to hear about the hunt, for when I get my plate cleaned off.

Our hunt was on the SW side  of the island on Bumble Bay. The plane landed on the beach and from there we climbed to the cabin 100 yards above. It was a private cabin so no guide or outfitter was used.
The deer we found out were always right on top of the mountains so we would try to get to the top and there glass for bedded animals. The hills were for the most part very steep! A lot of the times I was going hand over hand pushing the bow in front of me as I climbed and then sitting on my butt coming down. At 71 my balance isn't what it used to be so that was the safest way to go.
Grizzlies were numerous and every day we had to alter our plans accordingly to keep our distance from them. We also had to keep a ridge or rocks between us and the deer because if they saw you it was over, they didn't forget about you. The second day I spotted a the deer and was able to get within 20-25 yards of him by crawling through some rocks. I saw my shot hit him good and on his second jump away his legs folded and he went head over heels many times finally stopping about 150 yards down the slope.
We only got to hunt 5 out of the 10 days planned because of wind and rain so that was a bummer but nothing a guy can do about that. The days we did hunt winds were a problem as they were anywhere from 25-45 mph, temps were 30-50 range so unless it was raining you stayed pretty comfortable. I'll try to post some pictures so you can see what the country looked like.

The cabin is in the center of the first and 3rd pictures. The last night a big grizzly bedded down about 100 yards from the cabin. I had my meat hanging on the back side of the cabin so that night the bear protection gun lay right on the table between me and the door! The next morning he was still sleeping and didn't leave until the plane woke. I had tried t get him going by hollering but he just looked at me and rolled over.
