Leather tennis handle wraps

Anyone ever use them on your bow? And if so which ones did you like? They all look kind of thick.

I wouldn't have it any other way.  It's not the wrap that is thick and god made rasps and sandpaper for a reason . 

The unfortunate thing with leather wrap these days is it's near impossible to find it without "Wilson" or some other name stamped in the middle of a 3' strip.

That was the issue for me.  It made th grip too thick for me.

Personally I would just go for the beavertail. I've tried the other stuff but found the beaver to be the best.

 Beaver tail is great but I've had it come loose on two bows and not everyone has the skill set to refit it.

I think that applies to anything you put on your bow.

A tennis racket grip NEVER slips or moves.  Once it's on, it's on.  And mine are not "thick".  I shoot Harrison bows and Jack made bows to fit a guy.  He got his wrap from a supplier in England and beats me if I know who they were.  I'm ordering a roll from a maker called Tourna today matter of fact to replace the leather on a Siberian Wolf I have.  It was refinished at some point in it's life and someone put a leather stitched grip on it.  A leather stitched grip??? That's like a monkey riding a dog the rodeo between the broncos and the bulls.  Funny but just not right somehow.  It only comes in a dark tan but doesn't have a logo on it.  God made shoe polish to help colors on leather get right.

Ever try bicycle handle bar tape? Comes in a bunch of different colors and thickness.

I've got a roll of hockey tape to wrapping grips. Comes in a variety of colors including camo!

I tried that stretchy gauze wrap they use for blood donor wraps.  It works but dirties up quick.

I used them on my Bigriver recurve and liked them.  I really like a fat grip.

I use 4-5oz veg-tanned and whatever-dyed leather soaked in warm water for ten minutes. The soaked leather will stretch and dry tight, which is why you leave the gap when you trim it to size. Punch your lacing, I do four holes to an inch most of the time and lace it good and tight with fine twine, leather cord, rawhide cord, shoelaces, etc.
I read this trick that Wrap the handle in masking tape the wrong side out and cut straight down the belly/archer side of the handle to transfer the rough pattern, then put it on the handle and trim it little by little until there's maybe an eighth-inch gap between the leather.

I have a Harrison HSS and agree that the black leather wrap is comfortable.  This Bowmar grip tape is thin and tacky and gets good reviews...

You can still get those really great leather tennis grip wraps. They were made by Fairway of England and are available online. Keep flinging those shafts!

A well laced leather grip is hard to beat. But What are the advantages to using a wrap style? The look is growing on me but never tried one.

The leather wraps look good!

As some guys have stated it can make the grip bigger than you think it would.That goes for thicker leather  grips and Beaver tail as well.

Might not like a synthetic wrap since its not leather.But I have wrapped quite a few baseball bats with Lizard skins wraps for ball bats.I think it would work really nice on a bow and its pretty thin.Comes in kinds of colors and patterns

I have been thinking about this for my Black Widow recurve....I don't need it until the weather cools and I wear gloves. Been thinking about pine tar instead of a wrap.

This is my simple trick I have used for years.
Cut a strip of suede leather about 1 1/4" wide and long enough to wrap as far as you want.
Start at the top with it tacked down with Barge Cement and then wrap slightly overlapped and when you reach the bottom, cut a long taper and Barge Cement the last full wrap and it's done.
You can get the suede leather very cheap if you get scraps.

I have a Harrison American Wolf with the leather wrap on it and I love it. So much so that if I can't have that wrap on a handle I won't have anything. Hence, my Black Widow PL III, Bear Ausable, and Bighorn Custom Ramhunter are bare wood handles.
