I just didn't have the right color to make a new string for my favorite Kanati longbow. So when I went to ordered string material I decided to try the BCYX-99.  How many strands are you using for BCYX-99? (61lb@30")

Thank you,
Tedd

20 for most - with .025 serving, it will fit most standard nock at .110 like a GT, large G, Day 6 exc.

Thank you,
I'll try that first. I ordered both .024 and .030 HALO to go with it.

Steve,
The 20 strands makes a great string. Just about right. Thank you!
Since the first one was experimental, I stole some wooly whispers out of an old string. So I'll swap those out with some fresh ones. The string was was quiet and shock free, looks good and is pretty much exactly the same as BCY-X. Maybe quieter and a tick faster.
I might try 18 strands. The 20 strands of X-99 is just very slightly larger in diameter than 16 strands of BCY-X I was using.
(I put .026 HALO on this, it fits gold tip nocks and the large G nocks. It's slightly snug for Easton Super nocks. And too small for Classic nocks on wood)

Good info. Much can be gleaned from these questions!

Another trick to the 20 strand to get a slightly looser nock fit is to crank the server tension really tight.
This can make about a .002 difference in finished diameter.

I'm finished experimenting and like the results. Maybe this will save someone some work and money if they get some of this string material.
I made one up with 18 strands of x-99. Using .026 HALO. The 18 strand is plenty of string for safety and durability. I have shot it daily for two weeks and it's working great. On a whim I replaced the serving with .030 HALO for two reasons. To possibly make it a little easier on my third finger on a hot day with a thin glove and to make it roll off the fingers a little smoother.
It's a very small adjustment, but I like to experiment. The nock fit is still good, a tad snugger and will fit everything except maybe classic nocks. (.030 HALO has some flattening properties and can fit a wide range).
There is a slightly thicker feel and shoots fine. For some reason it's quieter with the thicker serving. I don't know if there is any truth the the slightly thicker string coming off the fingers better but I do think it's easier on fingers. Oh and it does not creep at all! Very quiet string.
My bow is 61lb@30" The string I have settled on is a two bundle, 18 strands of BCYX-99, back twisted, 2 woolly whispers. I plan to use this recipe on all my bows.

18 strands is what I used  with bcy x. Looking forward  to trying the x 99.
We are all here because we are not all there.

Does anybody pad their loops to 24 strands ,I see that some people do and will it make a difference one way or another.

I actually pad to 28 for added cushioning - almost no weight - certainly not significant for performance.
