Trying to clear out some other projects... in order to concentrate on finishing the compound conversion and starting to hammer on my swap bow.

I was planning to put the finishing touches on a little bow I made for Lisa. Nock to nock 53" and 50lbs at 26", Hickory backed Osage with Walnut accents. This was a special built small game bow. Quick to draw, fast and easy to bust the brush with. It drew well and looked good on the tiller tree with a short string. I knew it was pushing the boundaries of what these materials will do but didn't expect a blow up! The edges needed to be eased and a final sanding before finish, but I thought I would have her shoot a few arrows through it to see how the poundage felt and see what she thought. Total FAIL!

NOTICE: NO WIVES WERE INJURED DURING THE FAILURE OF THIS BOW.

Here is the necropsy...

Slight flip to the tips. I liked the shape.

[attachment=2,msg2853636]
Very narrow tips.

[attachment=3,msg2853636]
Not sure what gave out first, back or belly.

[attachment=4,msg2853636]
Backing gave loose right on the grain seam.

Handle turned out nice and fit Lisa's hand well.

Bow profile was probably too deep in proportion to the width. Like I said, it was somewhat of an experiment and I thought I might peel the weight down to 45#. Oh well... I may be able to strip the handle/fade off and use it again.

Ouch, been there done that.

The edges needed to be eased.

Are you saying you left the edges square when ya shot it?

That could have done it in.

I've seen and heard bad things about hickory backing too.

Grain has to be very straight with minimal run outs.

All ya can do is start another one.

OkKeith

Roy-

I did leave the edges squareish... my fault, in a hurry. I have built a lot of hickory backed bows but the width to depth ratio was much more on the width side.

Not sure what I did wrong with the photos...

I'm trying to figure it out.

If you used a cell phone camera, you need to go into the camera settings and choose the lowest size format for the camera.

Cell phones take huge pictures and they time out when loading to tg.

OkKeith

Roy-

That's exactly the problem. I first downloaded the photos to my laptop and they were to big. Then I emailed them to myself adjusting the file size and downloading them to my laptop. Guess that didn't work either.

I'm on the road with work right now so will try and fix it all when I get home. I used TapATalk for a while but it quit working for me for some reason.

Tried TapATalk and couldn't get them to work either.

I will repost when I get home.

You can get a free re sizer for your lap top or desk top here https://www.fotosizer.com/

This one is an android app that will crop and resize on your phone  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer&hl=en_US

If you use an iPhone you would need to look it up but I'm sure they have a freeby too.

Tough luck on that 'sploding bow.  glad nobody was hurt!

I always have to down load the pics, export to desktop as jpeg, and resize to under 600kb's.

About the best I can find on iPhone is to email it to yourself it will give you resizing options. You then have to open them in email and save to photo.
