James Parker sands with green scotch brite and 400 sand paper .
That's what I did.
I have scraped before

The dye is denatured alcohol soluble / mixable.

I don't know if that would be compatible before and after with Acetone?

I use a scraper to remove the rind then sand with 320.

Looks like something is not working on your end there.

Mad Max

Before sanding and after sanding.
Then dye it

Do not put acetone on it anymore period none never again......

I scrape the rind off with a scraper then sand lightly with 320 length wise then wipe with clean rag dampened with denatured alcohol.

Just barely get the rind off, don't go too deep.

Mad Max

Don't go under the white?????????
Under the white is yellow strands!!
More info. on the Acetone please??????
Thanks Roy

Just barely scrape off the waxy film, No don't go under the white.
You don't want to get down into the power fibers.
Do not use acetone on this bow.
I doubt the alcohol base dye you have is compatible with acetone residue.

I have put a bunch of acetone/epoxy finishes on BBOs over leather dye, no problems.

Roy from Pa

Whatever but something there is not working out well for Maxi..
I'm wondering if the alcohol based dye is having a bad reaction to the acetone.

Mad Max

This is the Osage one washed with the Acetone .
The dye job came out exactly like I wanted it to. :jumper:

I did the Ipe one last night, scraped (like you said) and used the Mouth Atomizer again and got the same thing.
The large spots are done buy a paint brush with 2 or 3 hairs on it and dip it into Denatured Alcohol or dye. :jumper:

I watched the Poor folk video 2 weeks ago, I like that too, but I wanted to do the way James Parker does it.

This is a BBB I got from James,  see roy same thing beside the big spots.
He does them like yours too.
Next time I will use less Denatured Alcohol

Looks like classic fish-eyes. Something is impeding absorption, or maybe you need more lung power for atomization

Stay sharp, Kenny.
