I made a lot of progress on my new form today. It's a Bingham's 62" hybrid. I think making the form is my least favorite part of this hobby. Lams arrive in a couple days!

BTW, do any of you coat your forms with anything? I've always just kept mine bare wood but was just curious.[attachment=1]

Forwardhandle

I use .040 glass and contact cement on all my forms !
If you fear failure, you will never try ! But never except it!!

Flem

Well I learned something new! I did not know contact cement would take high temps. I believe Ritchie said his heat blanket gets too 190deg.
You can use most anything smooth and flat to cover your form. Formica/laminates work real good. Sheetmetal, roofing trim, aluminum, etc. I have used whatever I can scrounge for free. Thin slats of wood are good also, just countersink the screw heads and fill with bondo.

Forwardhandle

That was kennys tip to me it works great if you need to adjust it I use the heat gun and 250 Deg F with the infrared thermometer but even at that it takes a lot of pressure to move !

I use a .060 parll. Lam on the form. And paste wax on that just in case any glue gets on it. I have painted some of my forms also.

I use a Formica strip on my forms as well. I was asking because I have lots of dried epoxy running down the sides of my other form. I may try the paste wax to prevent that on this one. Thanks for the input y'all.

Crooked Stic

Plastic wrap before the glueup is placed on the form may prevent that.  :bigsmyl:

Looks like you got some nice figured woods there Stic. What's the dark brown stuff in the first pic?

What's the dark brown stuff in the first pic?

Looks like some kind of accident:)

I always kind of figured Stic was a "regular" guy.

Got the riser for the wife's bow ready today. She liked the design of the swap bow I did and wanted something similar. She liked the three stripes. Said great things come in threes. Wind, earth, and water. And our three kids.
I'm leary of the cherry riser. But it's from a tree at the house where she grew up. So we're gonna try it. I'm gonna back it with a stout fiberglass powerlam and hope for the best.

Mad Max

With the laminating and the power lam you will be  fine.

That is nice, Brad..

Gotta agree with Max, it will be fine with the laminating and the power lam.
