It's not a rare bow, but I got this Root Bushmaster, from a yard sale yesterday for $10.  It shows it's age, (but so do I)  It's shoots amazing, like all those other vintage recurves I enjoy shooting.  It just needed a string.  [attachment=1,msg2827981][attachment=2,msg2827981]

It's the first time I put a low stretch string on a vintage recurve. (not only does it have some good tip overlays but I padded the loops well with some B-55 but the string is BCY force 10).  It does amazing things for the sound and vibrations on this old bow.  10 strands of force 10 and an additional 6 strands of B-55 on the loops,  I could put it down earlier today,  shooting some 455 grain gold tips, amazing groups.

Great find.  Wasn't that many years ago...well, around 20...that finds like that weren't all that unusual around here.  Could find old bows for $25-$50 all the time, often for less...then traditional got more popular, old bows became "vintage", and the prices went nuts...haven't seen a deal like that in a long time.

I always scan yard sales as I go by looking for bows, but I've never had the luck my brother had, picking up a Super Kodiak in good condition for $5. It had a little twist, which we corrected. You made a great find!

This root has a slight twist too, while un-braced.  The twist goes away when I string it.

That's why you go to those things... you never know!

Mike, once the Root is strung, you may be able to remove the unstrung twist by twisting the tip of the strung bow in the opposite direction. It worked for Bill's bow.

Nice find.  I'm always on the lookout for old archery equipment at yard sales.  I've picked up a few bows at auctions.
