Man has it been rough in Texas so far this season!! Torrential rains have flooded my favorite spot on public land so I've been having to hunt a very small lease I have. With all the rains the winds have been way less than ideal too!
I was even feeling rather down this morning when the winds started to swirl. I just knew I was wasting my time. But there was a slight updraft so I stuck it out and decided to just enjoy a beautiful morning in the woods regardless!
About 8:30 a lone doe approached from the north but wouldn't get any closer than about 30 yrds. She knew something wasn't right so she eventually left.
About 9:30 I was pretty sure my morning was a bust and I started txting some buddies when I suddenly hear something coming up from right and I look up to see a big boar about 10 yrds away. I started to grab my bow when he got a hint of something he didn't like. He trotted in a wide circle and tried to get down wind. He messed around for about 15-20 minutes but wouldn't ever come back in. He was to smart for that. He eventually left.
About 10:00 I txt my wife and told her I was gonna sit till about 10:30. About that time I see some movement at about my 2:00 and look up to see a young doe at less than 10 yrds. With all the rain we've had everything is wet and I just wasn't paying attention!! She goes on by and I see another doe quickly approaching. I tried to stand as she went behind a tree but she caught some movement and froze staring at me at about 8 yrds. I had to twist to my right and slowly draw but my elbow kept hitting the tree preventing me from reaching full draw. So I leaned a little to my left to get a little more draw and let the arrow go. I caught her low. Low enough I was a little worried. But the shot was better than I thought it was! She went about 100 yrds before expiring.
