...and don't be foolish and think you should stay behind. There is nothing you can do if the storm hits your area and the longer you wait to get out the harder it will be. Be sure you have food and water in your travel vehicle.

Totally agree. Would add to leave early .. had family in Houston trying to evacuate during hurricane Patricia .... got stuck on the highway with everyone else trying to leave at the same time ... was an absolute disaster

Our thoughts and prayers will be with y'all.  We stayed through hurricane Katrina, and it was something serious.  I remember sitting on the porch and watching 60ft pine trees snap off like twigs on the edge of a pasture that was across the road.

My daughter and my son-in-law are stationed in North Carolina. They were being evacuated yesterday. Oh I hope everyone stays safe and any damage is minimal. My grandson is here with us , that is one less thing we have to worry about!

I'm Southwest of Raleigh.  We've made our preparations here.  Spending the day today clearing up my property of anything that could be an issue.

Looks like the storm might swing inland after the initial landfall and come our way. They say as much as 7"+ for us if it does. Aside for possible land slides we can handle the rain. We are already saturated with almost 100" of rain so far this year, over 7" for last month.
I grew up in Savannah and moved to Bluffton, SC(outside of Hilton Head) in 1978. We had one hurricane(David I think) come up the Savannah River but fortunately it wasn't powerful. Then in 1989 Hugo was heading the same direction, towards the Savannah River but stalled in the Gulf Stream, moved 1 degree north and smacked into Charleston. Our house in Bluffton was about 3' above sea level. If it would have hit, that would have been all she wrote for us.
Anyway. these storms are nothing to mess around with. You will never win against one. The evacuation routes are already filling up. All 4 lanes of I-26 are heading west, maybe I-40 too.

That's a lot of rain, Pat

We have had 9 inches of rain the past 4 days...

This area used to get the second highest rainfall in the continental US, next to the Olympic Peninsula with an average of 68" to 80". A few years ago we had 125" for the year after 3 Gulf Hurricanes dumped 28" in September. We have all 7 headwaters rivers of the French Broad here in our county with elevations from 1800' to over 6000' so what falls here doesn't stay around long.
