I don't even bother using mine out in the sun

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

Those indoor numbers sound much more like what that bow should be doing!

So I chrono'ed my rig today. I'm getting 157 FPS out of the Tall Tines. I'm shooting 58#'s at 28.5", and a 572grn arrow. Is that decent? After making the move to trad archery from the compound it was a bit of a shock. I'm used to the 324 FPS the halon spits out.
At 28.5" the Halon isn't hitting 324, especially with a hunting arrow.  I don't even chrono my recurves usually.  I think that's a little low for a TT though.  I had one about that same weight,  but I have a 31" draw.

My draw length on the Halon is 31 hence the big FPS.

Lol. Sorry. Left out that small detail.  :biglaugh:

I had no idea that was even a thing. Good to know.

Chronos need a diffused light, the light kit has cardboard that reflects the light to the chrono. Not direct.

You can get some wild numbers in sun, direct light or too little light....  I thought I built a world class bow once , then found the chrono was lying...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

This thread got me remembering my old chrony and today being overcast I did some velocity testing on my toelke recurve.
Chrony used was a shooting chrony - green one.
Hold - split finger with American leathers bigshot glove.
Arrow weights -
1) Beman ICS 340 full length with 100 grain insert + 145 grain field + 2 inches of 2117 footing + fletching and wrap and nock- 583 exclusive of last 3 - say 600 grain total

2) Beman ICS 340 full length with 21 grain insert + 145 grain field + nock + fletch -493 grain total

3) black eagle full length 300 + 50 grain insert + 145 grain field   + 2 inches of aluminium footing + cresting and fletching and nock - 558 appx total

4) black eagles with standard insert 558- 29 grains

5) arrow dynamics heavies around 540 grains.

The bow kept all arrows nicely around 166 fps ,not 190 as I was expecting. That said while velocity testing she shot a peach of a group with me focussed on readout.

Update - Dan said that I was short drawing and I was - I was almost 2 inches under drawing. Now back to the drawing board.
Toelke SS recurve
Toelke Whip

Yes...had me scratching my head for a moment.??? Lol....even my 43# Wing gets close to 170fps.  Speed isn't the sole measure of lethality. But a bow in the 180's will get it done easily..!
