i'm getting some of the last magnus 1 classic heads made by thunder valley. they are 1 1/2" wide. just wondering how wide the original magnus 1 was? was it 1 1/2" like the thunder valley ones or was it 1 3/8" like a zwickey delta?

My understanding was the original Magnus head, later referred to as the Magnus I (Magnus dropped the I years after) were the 1.5" width just as the heads you are getting.

Thunder Valley may not have been able to make a go of the business, but all of the heads they produced were as good or better than Magnus' versions quality wise from what I could tell.

In the very beginning Magnus was simply milling a slot in Zwickey Delta and Eskimo to accept a bleeder. There were no two blade Magnus at first. Once Mike started assembling his own heads he made them wider than the Zwickey's and introduced a two blade version.

The Magnus I was 1 1/2" wide and the Magnus II was 1 1/4". I worked with Mike almost from the beginning to help build his business and improve the product.
