I took a chance on an unfinished longbow ($10 only), and it has a good size crack developing straight down from the rest into the grip area.  I plan to try superglue and some sort of glue or resin impregnated wrap to save it.

If that fails:

Has anyone successfully cut off limbs and converted them to takedown limbs for a 3 piece takedown.  Obviously I would need to figure out proper angles, riser length, etc.

What I have done with broken bows is re-use the tips and sometimes the handle section.

"and converted them to takedown limbs for a 3 piece takedown"  problem there is you have to re tiller and get a good fade area to work properly.   Shorter draw is possible.

If a Marine has an empty rifle he has a bayonet, if a Marine has a broken bow he has two sharp ass sticks. I don't see the problem here.      :bigsmyl:
Life is to short to pass up anything that could potentially be bow wood!

Cracks in the shelf window junction are not unusual.  That is a very highly stressed part of the riser.  Could you cut a crescent out of the riser and fit a new piece of wood into to the cutout.  I have had success doing that several times.  If you do, remember to radius the junction between window and the shelf junction, you don't want a 90 degree transition.  Good luck.

Jess, I had thought of doing something along those lines.

John, it will make 2 pointy sticks, but Im not sure how thatll go down at archery shoots lol.

I know it would be tricky, but it would be a learning experience.

Forget it and move on. Whoever sold it obviously doesn't know what they are doing. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow ear....

I always use them as trash can stuffing so I get a full can.

Broken bows may very stylish fire pokers.  I have the most awesome fire poker at ETAR.  -Just ask canopyboy, he made it for me

I would tape the crack and "fill" with super glue. Keep filling until it won't take any more glue. Let it cure a few days and it will be stronger than the original wood if done right. I use the black tubes from WallyWorld, 4 tubes for $1.57

LMAO..   :)

I had a bad one that I sawed in two at the shelf. I rounded it out there and cut the tip off below the overlay. Drilled a hole in the tip end for a wrist strap.an attitude adjuster .

Not gonna lie. I have a few standing in the corner that might have takedown potentials.. LOL

But just haven't gone there yet.
