+3 hate long sanding jobs , Lonnie for me chronys can be touchy some times location ,lighting etc , as you probably know ,but with mine I found shooting at least 2 arrow lengths away I get better results & right spined arrows , I don't know how much gain switching to fast flight will get you on glass bows, I just started making them but with natural material bows I can get 7-12 fps gain using FF over B50 , depends on bow and string count , I also found with that design you made playing with the brace height made a difference in speed , I should do some test on mine only pulling it to 28'' vs 30 1/2''.

Thanks for the input Ritchie. I plan on getting some new string material at ETAR so I can play around with that. I did verify that I was 6 1/2" on the brace and have increased that to 7" but not for speed testing, it just looked more right. I hope to finish shaping everything today and get it comfy where I like it, then I will start toying with speed and tuning. I think my biggest problem is that I am still tuning my form as a well. I have a buddy in PA that keeps giving me tips and I improve each time he does but it's not the same as having someone beside you to give you funny looks when you do something wrong.

I cut a template from Kenny's D/R longbow plan and I made the increase in reflex mod. I'm working on the form press, and grinding some tapered lams.

Makin sawdust is my life!! Have fun Rich! :bigsmyl:

Tim,the modified makes more weight so if you want 50, go with 45 # stack off the original (if you did 1" extra reflex)
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Thanks Kenny.
We had talked before, my goal weight is 45#'s so I am going with the normal "40#" stack figures.
Thanks again.

I shaped and sanded and sanded and shaped. Then I shot it for a few shots and shaped a bit more. Then back to sanding.... I am sensing a pattern here. Then VIOLA (typo intentional) I hit the point of feeling, that's good enough. So I figured it was time to put it away and go at it fresh tomorrow.

I am having trouble with those little white spots on the top and bottom of the overlay and hoping it's not bad glue spots but I had a lot of issues getting that clamped in place.

I like the looks of that bow Lonnie.  Lot of grain going on in that bocote.  I have trouble with those glue spots on the overlays sometimes too, wish I could give you some good advice on how to get rid of them but I really can't!

They may be glass dust in little spots you haven't quite sanded out. Wet it with alcohol and see if they turn black. May need to fill a little and sand some more.

It has been a bow building week for me.  I thought I would do something I usually don't do a very good job of doing...posting some pics.

My brother had surgery on his wrist and needed a low poundage bow during his rehab.  He had given me a big chunk of walnut, and I had some walnut veneers and clear glass from Kenny so...

I made him a 36# static tip recurve.  I am letting the finish cure for a few days, haven't decided if I will finish off with a coat of matte finish or leave it like it is.

I am not completely satisfied with the finish on this bow or my other fiberglass bows, I am thinking I might break down and try thunderbird.

Thanks Mitch, Kenny really does provide some nice product. I really like that wood combo on your recurve, what wood did you use with the Walnut?

I will give that a try Kenny, thanks.

Thanks Ritchie, it does shoot an arrow pretty quick for a 36# bow, but it is louder than my longbows!

Lonnie - the overlays are purple heart and the core lam is elm.

Just got back from the range with my coworker/Hunting partner had a heck of a lot of fun 15-45 yards took two of my this year hunting bows the 68''BBH & 64'' R/D we call him little bull he knocked his sights out on the hunt last year made a bad shot on a 6 point buck we tracked it 1/2 mile in the dead of night tell we found his glow knock glowing in a deep ravine he pulled the dear out of there like a end loader hence the handle !
