That looks really good John, very smooth arcs.
Skeater who?

George Tsoukalas

Looks very good. Give mid limb on to nocks a few  scrapes to get to 28". Jawge

Thanks guys, George that answers my next question.

Nice job. I think I'd get the outer limbs bending a bit more like George said. Other than that she looks good.

What is the width taper like?
Without knowing this we can only guess what tiller the bow should have and wether what you have now is correct for the width taper.
A pyramid bow should be moire arc of a circle due to very littel thickness taper. A parallel width bow that tapers in near the tips should be elliptical.
One tiller shape does not fit all width profiles.

SportHunter

What does it look like at brace height? Looks like it may still be on long string, when you change to a brace height length string the tiller will look different.

Roy from Pa

John, once the limb tips are bending down to about 9 inches, you should brace the bow up to about a 6 inch brace height and continue tillering it out. A shorter string applies more stress to the outer 1/3rd of the limbs. I quit using the really long tillering string years ago. Now I cut in the string grooves and put a string on the bow that lays flat up against the belly right from the start. But it does have a nice bend and a shorter string will bring those tips around more.

John Malone

Thanks Roy. Guys its a pyramid 70 inches. 1.5 at the fade tapering to 5/16 at the tips. The belly taper is 5/8 at the fade 7/16 at the tip. Its only braced to about 3 inches going to make a better string here shortly.

I like to get a bow to low brace as soon as possible after floor tiller. Too long on the long string can lead to under weight bows and sometimes wonky tiller. A long string(just slightly longer than the bow) will let you see how things are bending after but better than floor tiller and low brace will show you not only string alignment but the actual tiller of the bow. Once I get the bow tillered just past normal brace bend I go to full brace height.

Thanks Pat, got my string twisted up lets go see what happens. I'm a recurve guy whats an average brace for a 70 inch bow of this type? Going to start at 6inchs.

Like Pat B says, and layoff the fades till the last scrape or you wont make weight...     :archer:

Pat B

Six inches is a good starting point. From there you can fine tune after the bow is done.

That's a pretty good tiller.  It kinda looks like a flat spot by that outlet plate, but it may just be the difference in color.  Either way you came a long way since your last bow.  Great job!

Just realized that you flipped the bow in the 2 pics.  It must just be the color variation tricking my eyes.
