Tillering advice please

Hey gang!

Rookie bowyer here, looking for advice on how to proceed with a bamboo backed hickory bow I'm working on.

It's 72" with a mild reflex deflex profile, very mild on the deflex and maybe an inch or two of reflex at the tips.

Started with a hickory board and premade bamboo backing strip, glued in the curves with Titebond III in a mold I made.

Any tips on how to best proceed at tillering would be greatly appreciated!





I'm using a tillering tree and the gizmo to see where I should take scrapes off - sound like the best course of action to you guys? I've read that the gizmo doesn't necessarily work that well with these recurved etc. bows so figured I'd seek some advice from people that know more than me haha.

Also, check out the first real bow I made that wasn't cut down from the bushes in my backyard!  It ain't tillered perfectly but it's very fun to shoot, pulls 64# @ 28", also 72" long hickory board with drywall/fiberglass tape and titebond III backing.

You could get a little more bend in the outer portion of the right limb but leave the last 6" stiff. Also both fades could bend a little more too.

Thanks for the advice Pat, appreciate it. Apparently photobucket wants me to pay $400/year to host my images now so I'm gonna figure out a new way to get my bow on here

The fades could definitely move a bit more. But overall pretty good. It probably won't take much scraping to get them where they need to be.

Yep I agree the fades are stiff.  Hopefully the handle area has enough transition or the limbs are thicker in the fade area.  There is always that chance the handle could pop off.  64# shes a brute..

But it looks ok from here.
