Just finished my first 'character' osage self bow. Came in at 50# @ 28'' and is 66''ntn.Quiet and snappy shooter. happy with it.

bigbob2

Plenty of kinks and knots to make it harder.

bigbob2

really enjoyed making this one with more in progress! It has about 1'' of reflex which settles to around 1/2'' of string follow after a days shooting.

bigbob2

Brace is a little low here as it only has a an old 'working' string on it yet .

bigbob2

Obligatory full draw shot with 'work for a dime' model!

thanks guys!. Was a bit nervous throwing it in front of all you wood guys! It really is satisfying working on all wood bows.I especially like chasing the ring down. This one had very thin rings toward one end so was difficult especially for my first osage bow.

Pat B

I find chasing a ring on osage is easier than most other woods. The difference between the early and late wood is what makes it easier.IMO
You had a challenge working around those warts though and handled it like a pro.
Like I said...very well done!

thanks again guys.Pat agree about the rings, marked difference between early and late.Bob W , after building glass bows for years, all wood bows really are relaxing in some ways, hair pulling in another .RJones, are you expat or spent some time over here? Quite observant to pick up the barra in background.

Went there a few times when I was in the military.  Visited Townesville, Tindal/Katherine, and Darwin.  Got well acquainted with Tooheys and XXXX Gold.
