Another design question....

On a R/D glass bow, do you want the throat of the grip at dead center?  Or slightly higher?

How does split finger vs three under vs crawl affect where you place the grip throat?

Lovin the feedback , guys!

I make em dead center, and adjust tiller for different finger placement. Most say 1/8" positive for split and even tiller for 3 under.

I keep throat center no matter the release method and change the tiller or limb length to adjust for a preferred release method.

I have one and two more bows out there that have the glass wrapped socket. In order for the tenon oreintation to work out I had to put the shelf 1 3/4 -2 in. above center. So those throats are that much higher than center. All of these bows are tillered 1/8 th. positive. Cant tell the difference. As matter of fact that bow is one that I am most accurate with.

I'd like to make a two piece-er one of these days.

On the first prototype 56" recurve, I decided to put the shelf 1" above center of the bow rather then my customary 1 3/8" that I have done for years on my other longer bows.    I had all kinds of issues with bow noise and the arrow flight being finicky.  I thought it was the design but after a few days I realized that the bow was out of tiller.  By moving the shelf down 3/8" I was putting more pressure on the lower limb.  I retillered the bow making the bottom limb stiffer to handle the extra pressure and the bow shot like a dream.  I think I went from 1/8" positive tiller to a little over 1/4",if I remember right.
Lesson learned here was if you change shelf height then you are changing hand placement and the amount of pressure that is put on the limbs.  If you move shelf up then the top limb should be stiffer than normal and if you move shelf down the bottom limbs needs to be stiffer than normal.  This is a rule of thumb.

Thanks, Holm-Made.

I've got a lot to learn about tillering.
