Fiberglass splinter removal

Last night I was sawing out the arrow Shelf on a bow I am making for my daughter. Stupid me, I grabbed the place where I had just cut the Shelf and ended up getting about 5 teeny weeny fiberglass splinters in my hand. You know, the kind you can totally feel but not quite see.

I was in the shower this morning and all five we're still there. While I was shaving the razor I was using was a little bittoo dull and was pulling the whiskers on my face. I had an idea so I took the razor save the places on my hand where the splinters were and they all came right out.

Just thought I'd share.

Glad you got them out! I use duct tape to pull them out.never tried anything else.

Long story but similar; I was stung by a buck moth caterpillar that broke off it's poison spines in my leg. Every time I moved the wrong way the spines stung me again, the poison sacks are attached to the spines. I tried scraping them off with a knife but this was a mistake, I apparently broke them off even with the surface of my skin.

Weeks later I was still being stung a dozen times a day. I should have googled the subject earlier, when I did they recommended covering the area with scotch tape, I tried this but it didn't work, I was still being stung.

The poison is a nerotoxin, several months down the road the area where I was stung had gone numb.

The stings became less and less but still happened every now and then.

I tried a Bikini wax kit to remove the spines with no luck.

My son suggested a Biore Black head remover strip, I tried one of those and got two spines out, the one that was the longest when viewed under magnification had multiple fish hook like barbs all around it.

When I got the spines out the stinging stopped, a year and a half later I have a permanently numb spot below my knee where I was stung.

Perhaps a Biore strip is the way to get difficult splinters out of your skin.

Never heard of a buck moth.  I hope we don't have them in Illinois!

Eric, if you get stung by another buck moth caterpillar..you can try duct tape to pull the spines out or apply clear nail polish, let dry then peel off.

I have been hit by a variety of these rascals over the years with no lasting effect.

I was stung walking through my corn patch with shorts on, I knew better and usually wear coveralls when I pick corn because of previous stings.
