Ok Im chasing my tail. Im trying to paper tune a bow I made for a friend, I have the spine but no matter what I do it is constantly shooting nock high. I'm going crazy. The bow is osage, 66", 50+ lbs. I'm using spine test kit arrows with 125 gn. tips, B-50 string with 16 strands and 7" brace. I have tried brace from 6 1/2" to 7 1/4"......Im wondering if using 16 strands is the issue, maybe do a 14 strand.
I've not had this issue before.

Have you tried moving your nocking point on the string?

Greg Owen

From my experience, sometimes a too low nocking point on the string causes the tail high issue from the arrow bouncing off the shelf. It seems wrong but try moving your nocking point on the string up a bit and see what happens.

yeah I moved the nock up and down a country mile, the shot would go from good to bad every shot

Are your arrow nocks too tight on the string with the 16 strand string?

passion for knowledge

I've used 14 strand Flemish twist strings on my 60lb recurve for a few years without a problem, so you should be OK with 14. Never had one break, but I usually retire them if they start to wear at the nocks.

The nocks didn't feel to tight as far as I can tell. So I asked myself what am I doing different? I realized I was using a brand new Bear paw shooting glove I picked up at the Traditional Archery expo in Kalamazoo the other day, so I went out and shot a few arrows with bare fingers and finally got good results, I evan went back to my old shooting glove, which is a much harder smooth leather than my new glove. I got good tuning with that also. Figure I'll take a little break and go out and try again see if I get the same result. It would be a shame if my new glove is gonna give me issues. If thats not it I will drop to a 14 strand string........ Stay tuned

You should try a tab.

I found that I shoot more consistently with a tab. My son, the same.

Me too with tab. But everyone is different..

Well it seems to be tuned still. Crazy how something made for shooting had such an impact on the shot.

Provided your arrows are fletched,  Try shooting cock feather in.

I second the cock feather in. I had bad years through paper one time and I tried everything. Finally out cock feather in and perfect hole through paper.
