Band saw issue

Hey guys, I've had this rigid bandsaw for about 10 years now, got it at a garage sell from a guy using it for taxidermy for 100$, I've gotten tons of use out of it, now I'm starting to have some issues. Started smelling rubber burning and opened it up to find the rubber around the wheel was working it's way off. I assume this is something that needs to be replaced with time but thought I'd double check with you guys.

The tires are just getting old, time to replace them. I would suggest replacing them with urethane tires instead of the rubber. There are plenty of videos on you tube on how to change them. If you soak the urethane tires in hot water to loosen them up they will go on a lot easier.

I put urethane tires on my old craftsman bandsaw and it got quieter. I used zip ties to assist in installation.

Ok great thanks guys! Any other tips on band saw maintenence? I have had some tracking issues with it recently and have to work hard to get straight cuts.

As long as your guides are set correctly wandering blades is down to the blades quality. The majority of blades out there are terrible! Make sure the blade is clean as well.

bad tires and/or dull blades are the most common cause of tracking issues--if it won't track with the guides off the blade --it won't track with them on!!

While you are getting the urea thane tires go ahead and replace the guides. Cool blocks work pretty good.

The point I was making was to get the best quality blade BEFORE messing about with other stuff. As in you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. A well tuned blade doesn't even touch the guides. Most blades are made out of monkey metal.

I have the same saw and it cuts perfect. The only problem with these cheap saws is that most of them use the same blade tentioner that is pot metal and will break if you use a 3/4 blade, or mine did (twice). After I fabricated a tentioner from steel, using the old one as a pattern, problem solved.

Current Rigid saws are guaranteed for life, yours might be as well. If this is the case Rigid will send you any parts you need for free.
