Last year I went to OJAM had a great time. I met up with an old friend that lives in Chelse OK. He and his good friend loaded me up with osage billets. On the aniversary of OJAM this year I started my first take-down.
Used a sleeve take-down system.

Getting a finish on the bow. I was wanting to have the bow ready for turkey season

Dont like the red wool felt I tried for the handle wrap

67" string groove to string groove 58@28. It cast a nice arrow. Now if I can get after those birds.

It's hard to make a wooden bow which isn't beautiful, even if it's ugly.

Hi Jack,
Just e-mailed you. Then saw this post. Great looking osage takedown. Looks like you nailed it.

Randy FerretWYO and his dad had gifted me a couple of logs. One was thought to be osage but when I split the log Randy and I looked at each other it was white wood. I call it mystery wood now dont think it was black locust but maybe honey. Anyway I went wide to be safe, and came up with a nice 65 string goove to string goove 55@28 flat bow

Belly with walnut added to handle

Only four growth rings in this bow

The other log was osage. I didnt do that log justice in fact I failed that log miserably. It had been left outside in WY low humidity for I think Randy said over 10 years. It was too dry and every bow I tried to get to 28 inch draw broke. Well when the last stave raised a splinter on the back I thought rawhide patch and stop tring to get it to 28inches. I lowered the weight and at my daughters 25 inch draw it is holding up and should do her good at 62 inch and 40@25

Knot going all the way thru the lower limb almost the size of my thumb

Three bows I finished up this spring

The flat bow with 4 rings, possibly mulberry?

I have seen white and red with large rings.

Nice bows! Good shooting on the birds!

Thanks folks. Frank I didnt know there was white and red mulberry. I could be white but not red have made and been shooting red mulberry for a year.

Not a good picture my phone was doing something weird in the low light on the creek bottom. I do remember that after removing the bark it seemed like the inner bark had a lot of pin knots but once threw the innner bark to the wood all those pin knots where gone.

Anyway shot the mystery wood bow yesterday and really happy with the way it cast an arrow. I still have two staves left of this wood and will try a bow with a more narrow profile. My thought is it will have to much string follow if too narrow but will give it a go.
