I've been looking into laminated-bow building for quite a while now and I'm finally getting serious about it. From my research, I'm thinking LVL. Initially, I plan on building one-piece bows. I'm just looking for some opinions on what to use for form material. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Coltin

try Stensrud Cabinet Shop in Missoula..They should have Cabinet grade plywood. Tell them exactly what you are doing...they have a really big wide belt sander and can get your form exactly the width you want.

LVL from a box store might be a cheaper route. Definitely check local sources though, you might get a much better "deal" in the long run.

LVL is supposed to be very stable over time.
I have never used it, but I have never had bad luck using decent-grade plywood either.

I would think that over time, and with multiple bow glue ups, something like LVL would have some benefits but if you are only planning to make a handful of bows I don't see how you can go wrong with plywood.  YMMV

The key is to ensure that your bow form is perfectly square -- the entire length.
