Picked up a piece of black Mesquite a couple weeks ago, was wondering if anyone has ever used it before.  Would it be ok for tip overlays on a self bow?

I have used Keawe wood, which is the Hawaiian word for Mesquite as overlays on self bows. no problems yet. ( I have only made a few)  It is really hard,

it is brittle. I would not use it on any part that bends..

Thanks Michael,  the piece that I have is only big enough for tip overlays.  Anything special need done to finish it?

Nope, nothing special to it. Superglue and spray on varathane is what I have been using. It comes out looking pretty nice!

(in the earlier post when I said "its really hard" I was referring to the wood itself, not the process of using it for tip over lays.)
