Building another 3 piece bow. Long story but the limbs are under 1 1/2" would they be ok under that width.?  I'm thinking of leaving the tips wide. This is a wood bow.

Roy from Pa

I make all my bbo and tri lams 1 1/4 wide at the flares to 1/2 wide at the tips. Wide tips cause hand shock and slows down the bow.

What wood? What draw weight? What draw length? What length is the bow?

Wolftrail

- 3 lams, center lam is Black walnut.
- Draw is 27 1/2"
- Length about 66" with a 14" riser
I know about wide tips dont why I said that Roy..   :knothead:

The core doesn't really have any bearing on width. It's back and belly that count.

If wood species doesn't matter than neither does the width your concerned about.

Osage and yew are good at 1 3/8, ash is good at 2", hickory is good at 1 3/4", black locust is good at  1 5/8.

I cant tell you if 1.5" is good enough on your bow if you don't tell me what kind of wood you're using. Laminated or not, it matters.

Thanks. I had a blonde moment but the belly and back lams are Hard rock maple and center walnut.

At any rate the finished limbs will be under 1 3/8" wide. I think I may have to keep the taper rate a little steeper so the limbs will be wider mid limb. If that helps or not.

That combo would be better wider, near 1 5/8. Wider mid limb would help a lot, if you place it correctly.

I guess I should have a better look at what bows I have hanging on the rack.
:knothead:   The last 2 bows are one piece 61" and 63" NTN and the limbs are a hair over 1 5/16"  The one bow has over 600 shots thru it.  No twist on  either bow.  Same lams as mentioned above.

Well...I guess you're good to go without need for reassurance.

Have fun!
