Not going to get too excited but I found another sawmill up in farmington for about the same price. Good thing I am headed up there tonight like I do every week for school. Will let you all know if this one is in better shape and if I get it.

Good luck rmorris! I just cut 10 olive ash burl veneers, same as the ones in this ILF limb I built earlier this month..Now I'm taking a little break to cut up a wild hog ham for the crock pot and am gonna hammer some flat to fry later tonite..

oh man, I gotta full belly..fried wild hog, mashed potatos and gravy, sweet corn for supper tonite...and I have the rest of the ham in my crock pot slow cooking for supper tomorrow night. I got a stack of veneers cut too, 20 Olive Ash Burl, 8 or 10 Rosewood veneers, 6 curly koa, 4 quilted sapele..that should keep me busy for a while.

bigbob2

Wow that burl veneers look great!

halfseminole

Sounds good!  I bent the last veneer in a complex curve with a heavy cut of hide glue and now I have to wait till morning to remove all the yards of string keeping it curved right.  I pre-sized it with a couple of coats like a composite bow.

The more I use hide glue the more I love it.  The bottle of TBIII will be my last, I feel.  Gonna cook up some moose sinew glue too.  Hard to have enough on hand, says the man with a pound and a half of hide glue.  Fish bladder glue is my next stop.

fujimo

where you get all the fish bladders from?

The big auction site, when I order them.  There's also premade there, but I just want to do it myself.

fujimo

listen here smarty pants....   :biglaugh:
wonder if those bladders could be dried and shipped through the post?
we catch a lot of fish here during the summer- i could collect them for you Ed!

Zradix

finally got some horn glued to the tips of a bow.
..taking a looong time to finish this one.
15-20mins here and there kinda stinks.

Yes they can, and I'd pay you for the privilege and split the glue.  This stuff starts at over $150/kg on the big auction site for just bladders, and the premade glue is probably adulterated with hide/sinew glue.

Fish skins are good for backing, too.  Just remember when pulling bladders to get all the fat off.  It ruins the glue.

fujimo

so the bladders we have here are mostly salmon, never noticed much fat on the float bladder before- but i will look for it now, should i leave the air in, while i dry them, and then deflate afterwards, or is the membrane thin enough- that i can just dry them flat.

halfseminole

Just dry em flat.

Got my sirdan points in today, only to find they have a narrow shoulder.  Makes me wonder about arrow longevity with them.  I need to get someone to make me real points, but that takes money I spent on a new bow.

She is all mine! More capacity , 40' of track, and I was able to call the manufacturer and get a quote on replacing all the worn out parts.
