Charl

Hi everyone, been lurking here for a while researching and learning from the wealth of information available her. I have wanted to have a go at making a bow for a long time and finally worked up the guts to give it a good go. I do not have any progress shots of the initial work but hae some photos of the bow after coming out of the form and having some shaping done and then with a finish on it. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I will let mine do the talking. Any critique would be welcomed.

And here is the bow at draw.

And of course the obligatory shot of the bow after shooting 3 arrows from 10 meters!!

I havent been able to check the poundage of the bow yet but will be doing it on the weekend.

I plan on making many more bows, the bug has bitten hard!

First of all: Welcome from the Mississippi Delta.

I really like the clean lines and your choice of woods and accents goes very well together.

Wish my first had been that nice.

Very nice work. Is the form your own design?  I really like the profile.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I hope this si going to be the first of many bows! As for the design of the form, it was designed by a man named Barry Atkinson. I aquired it along with a few other bow making bits and pieces a while ago as I have planned to make my own bows for a long time.

I am in the process of researching what goes into a good form design as I do want to design my own from scratch as well! I am currently working on my second bow which is a reflex/deflex longbow design. Going to Ausbow Industries tomorrow to purchase what I need to make that bow a reality!

It seems this has a capacity to take over ones life! But,... I'm OK with that!

Hey Charl, good to see another aussie here. What state are you in? Great bow especially for your first one.
